I got Naura's R&D number from this link:

Reading it, again, it's seems I used the R&D expense for its parent company BOE. Just now, I looked for Naura's financial report, but couldn't find the actual R&D expense line item. I'll dig a bit more when I have time later today.

All other R&D expenses I obtained from actual financial reports so should be accurate.

FYI. So it looks like Naura's R&D expense (last 4 quarters) is $1.453B RMB (inestead of $10B RMB) ==> $0.215B

Here are 2021 R&D expenses for the major fabs for you to draw your own interpretation.:
Intel $15.2B
Samsung $6.5B
tsmc $4.46B
SK Hynix $3.098B
Micron $2.66B
SMIC $0.638B
GF $0.478B
UMC $0.466B

No data for Huahong Group, CXMT, & YMTC because the latter two are not publicly traded so data to draw from and for the first, its R&D is <$0.2B but his does not include what's spent by its subsidiary (Huali). All three have much smaller revenue than SMIC so not expected to spend anywhere close to SMIC.

ASML $2.55B
AMAT $2.485B
LAM $1.49B
KLA $0.928B
TEL $0.677B
Naura ~$0.215B

Keep in mind that if the "domestic" semi production line is vulnerable to western sanctions then it isn't really domestic. The whole point of having a domestic line to begin with was to beat western sanctions. So you are right, I would rather then not announce a "domestic semi production line" that is still reliant on US govt approval to exist ;)

Also keep in mind that companies like YMTC that rely on the West up the wazoo have no problem publicly announcing their successes for the whole world to see. Of course, YMTC actually has confirmed succeeses.

So... Another possibility is that the semi production suppliers simply aren't succeeding in their research & it's a lot harder than they thought. Given that China spends only a tiny fraction of what the Western alliance spends annually on R&D across a broad range of fields, it would be shocking if China didn't fall further and further behind.
It'd be shocking to you, which is a good thing because you're always wrong. Here, Ukraine thread, everywhere, so that's good. It's a fact that in almost every endeavor that China has either caught up to or surpassed the West on, it has done so with much less in research funds because it is simply more efficient and less wasteful than the West, particularly the US o_O

China also has and will continue to enjoy a much greater advantage in STEM talent.
"I will never announce anything, show anything or produce anything, but I know how to stop the sun from rising tomorrow. Just trust me on this one."

There are only two possibilities: Chinese announce success or do not.

If China announces success then it's succeeded just as its announcement said. If China never announces anything, then it's succeeded but simply is doing so in secret due to wartime mobilization. Heads I win, tails you lose.

There is no possibility that China has not succeeded. According to some here it is metaphysically impossible. Unfortunately that is not how the world works. ;)
Historically, whenever China was dedicated to catching up in a technology, it has always succeeded. Your opposite "logic" is that if the Chinese don't announce it, then they don't have progress and if they do announce it, then the Chinese tend to exaggerate and over-announce. So while we believe in China's prowess regardless of its announcements and you dismiss it also regardless of announcements, we are the ones being proven correct over and over by history and you are the one who is consistently proven wrong. :p

Huawei to launch HarmonyOS 3.0 soon, to shake off US export ban

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei is set to launch an updated version of its self-developed operating system (OS), the HarmonyOS 3.0, on Saturday, putting the firm on the fast track to shake off reliance on Google's Android, while also paving the way for it to recover from a hobbled handset business amid years of the US' ruthless sanctions.

In April this year, Yu said that the number of Huawei mobile devices equipped with HarmonyOS had exceeded 240 million worldwide, and the number of devices equipped with HarmonyOS had exceeded 150 million, with more than 2,000 ecosystem partners.

Harmony 3.0 is coming very soon but that’s not the interesting part.

Apart from its software dilemma, the firm is struggling with a chip ban, which has led to a major setback for its smartphone businesses. "The US ban is casting shadows on the firm, and it is still in a difficult period and is constantly looking for opportunities in new fields," Xiang Ligang, director-general of the Information Consumption Alliance, an industry association, told the Global Times on Monday.
But it hasn't given up, even in the most difficult chip part, Xiang said, noting that investment and research are still ongoing, with results expected to "come soon".

About a month ago, Xiang said that “maybe we can expect a glorious return in 2023.”

2022 has been a pretty bland in terms of domestic semi news and stuff. Speculation like this is nice since it’s been boring for far too long.

The CHIPS IS a just a bailout of Intel under the guise of “American competitiveness” lol
Interesting. My dad told me that a colleague of his told him maybe a year ago that he has inside info on Intel and that he should buy Intel stock. I didn't know then what would happen that would be so beneficial to Intel, but I think maybe this is it. If Intel spends a few billion of CHIPS act money on stock buybacks, that would probably help their share prices quite a bit.
