Afaik Taiwan made it illegal for Chinese companies to poach Taiwanese IC engineers
So much for being about democracy and freedom.

The strongest vote and expression of freedom a person can cast is voting with their feet.

Let me guess the US on the other hand has free reign 5o poach talent probably got handed a catalog of top talent to pick and choose.

I've been trying to think how China can use the current situation to grow in the neon gas market. The production of neon gas outside of Ukraine isn't going to be able to double overnight to replace the Ukrainian production. The two largest neon gas producers are Ingas and Cryoin. The former is based in Mariupol. I think it's safe to say they will not come back anytime soon. The latter is based in Odessa. Depending on how long this war lasts and whether or not Russia bombs Odessa, they may not be able to recover either. If the war drags on for another 4 to 6 months, Cryoin probably does not come back even if the factory itself does not get damaged.

So as a result of Russian invasion, half of world's production is going offline. If I understand correctly, neon gas is produced as a byproduct from steel plants. Given China's huge steel industry, I think we have a perfect fit here.

China's share in global neon supply may rise to 50 per cent from 30 per cent, as some foreign buyers switch to Chinese production to maintain a stable supply, said Chen Zhina, a general manager at Changzhou Naxin Special Gases Co in the eastern province of Jiangsu.

Chen estimated that before the war, Ukraine produced about 40 per cent of the world's neon, while Russia accounted for 30 per cent.

Global consumption of neon for chip production reached 540 metric tons last year. The gas is needed to make laser light sources in lithography systems.
So aside from Ukraine and China, the other large producer is Russia. That's going to be for all the countries that sanctioned Russia. With prices for neon gas in China shooting up 1000% (by some report), there is no better time than now for China to takeover this critical part of high grade neon gas supply. I've heard that TSMC has enough neon gas stored for 1 year of production disruption. Even so, many smaller players do not have such a luxury. It seems inevitable this will cause major supply issues over the next few months.

Xinhe Semiconductor releases new Hermes PSI and many product upgrades at DesignCon 2022

Chip and Semiconductor, a leading enterprise in the domestic EDA industry, officially released the new product Hermes PSI at DesignCon 2022, the global semiconductor design conference held recently. This is an EDA analysis platform for complete signal and power analysis at the package and board level. This DesignCon 2022 conference was held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California, USA, for three days from April 5th to April 7th.

Hermes PSI is the first power integrity analysis tool released by Chip and Semiconductor. This release of the 2022 version first focuses on the DC IR drop at the package and board level. It can import all common package and PCB design formats, and provides efficient DC power integrity analysis for the entire power supply system, enabling users to examine DC voltage drop, current and current density distribution, and more. The simulation of Hermes PSI is based on process operation, easy to use and set up, which lowers the threshold for users. Through simulation, the tool can report the DC voltage drop and judge whether the power supply meets the specification requirements, which facilitates the user's design iteration. In addition, the Hermes PSI can output the corresponding voltage drop, current density and power density color map, and has a layout-based color display and hot spot indication.

In addition to Hermes PSI, Chip and Semiconductor also brought important upgrades to its advanced packaging solutions and high-speed digital solutions at the conference. Here are some of the highlights:

  • 2.5D/3DIC advanced package electromagnetic simulation tool Metis: its built-in method of moments solver has been further improved to bring users better simulation performance; new wizard flow (wizard flow) has been added to guide step by step Users can easily implement 2.5D/3DIC and package analysis; several advanced features have been improved, including TSV support, PEC plane ports, chip-package stacking enhancements, and more.
  • 3D electromagnetic simulation tool Hermes 3D: The latest upgrade supports multi-machine MPI simulation, enabling large-scale simulation of any 3D structure, including wire-bonding packages, connectors, cables, fibers, and more. The new version enables the latest adaptive mesh technology for higher simulation accuracy and includes several improvements in ease of use and performance, including E/H field display, layout editing, wire-bond batch editing, and more .
  • The upgraded ChannelExpert provides a fast, accurate and simple way to assess, analyze and resolve high-speed channel signal integrity issues. It supports IBIS/AMI emulation. Schematic editing-like GUI and operations enable users to quickly build high-speed channels through SerDes, DDR analysis, run channel simulations, check channel performance against specifications, and more. In addition, ChannelExpert also includes other analysis, such as statistical eye diagram analysis, COM analysis and so on.
  • Other tools in the updated Expert series of high-speed system simulation suites, including SnpExpert, ViaEpxert, CableExpert, TmlExpert, have been further improved in ease of use and have added more built-in templates. Analytical evaluation of S-parameters as well as analysis of vias, cables, transmission lines, etc., is easier for users.

I think at the very least China should guarantee neon gas supply for its own industry and either stop or curtail exports.
In the long term the industry will probably take measures to recycle the gas and reduce consumption. But that will require changing the production facilities. And it won't be easy and require stopping production.

Actually this looks to me like bad news. ARM China was designed to insulate China from possible Western sanctions on ARM chip design licensing. By breaking ARM China from ARM they will likely cut ARM China from future core and architecture licenses.
Looks like Allen has to do his thing, except to Softbank.
