And if the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang route has even 1/10th the traffic of the Beijing-Shanghai route, you're looking at easily 20million man hours saved a year. Stuff I guess anti-China posters don't care about while they whine about why China is out-producing/researching them.

Also consider the strategic value of Zhanjiang. Improved connections to Zhanjiang surely has value that won't be quantifiable in monetary terms.

. China wants its people to move faster. What will happen to the current line once the new one starts?

The current line will be mostly dedicated to slow moving cargo trains. It's not often mentioned that the main economic benefit of building the Chinese high speed passenger train network is actually from increasing the cargo carrying capacity of the Chinese rail network, and reducing passenger travel times is just a very nice bonus.

Mixing fast moving passenger trains and slow moving cargo trains on the same rail line plays havoc with train scheduling and greatly reduces capacity. Railroads are far more efficiently utilized when all trains on the same line move at similar speeds. Having a dedicated high speed passenger line and a dedicated low speed cargo line is much much better than having 2 mixed use lines.

Well they weren’t built there, and at least bombardier had some good track record. CRRC also had issues with boston, with trains having electrical shorts, loose bolts, etc. there was also the class 411s which CRRC refused to fix for Macedonia under warranty when they had electrical problems. It’s embarrassing.

Bombardier has a terrible track record. So bad that the company went belly up and was sold to Alstom.

I really wish the image limit wasn't a thing.

More information regarding the CR250J/CR220J: it will also have a dedicated freight variant with refrigerated cars for fresh produce and frozen goods along with regular cars for small packages.
