I fail to see how they can be used in any other way. 24 aircraft is a joke for combat purposes. CAC and SAC together already produce 3-4 times that many combat aircraft per year. OPFOR and research are the most viable roles for them. There was word previously that China only wanted 2 examples so it's more than likely they never intended to form combat units with Su-35s.

But what could they be OPFOR for? You can't just say, "Su-35 and F-22 both have thrust vectoring so we can use Su-35 for F-22 OPFOR." The most suitable aircraft I can think of is the MKI. But even then, the MKI has canards, and wouldn't be exactly the same. And also, border dispute noted, is there a pressing need to OPFOR against India?

I think Su-35 was ordered for 2 reasons (if it was). Firstly, China wanted to support Russia by pumping funds into it so why not get something back for those funds? The second reason is that China is upgrading its Flankers (D variant and beyond maybe) so why not get some extra tips from Su-35? Even if the Su-35, on the whole, cannot be considered superior to J-11D, it certainly has some things that the J-11D does not and can learn from. If the Chinese engineers can combine the best of the J-11D with the best of the Su-35, they could have the ultimate Flanker.

Well, despite talk of the aircraft landing...I have not seen a legitimate photo of it, or seen any legitimate announcement of them being in China by the PLAAF or PRC.

Until these things happen, I will continue to presume that they did not take place.

It's all some sort of really weird story that makes no sense.

If the Chinese bought them, and they landed and are in PLAAF colors, I would expect to be able to see them. The SU-35 at this pint is not some super secret thing. It's not like they created a new super laser or rail gun system that is ready to be placed on ships, or one on aircraft that they do not want anyone to know about.

it's not like they have created an ion drive system for aircraft that can take off from the ground and readily fly into space, circumvent the globe and then come down on foreign soil to attack or reak havc.

This is SU-35s fom Russia we are talking about, aircraft that have been a round a long time we are talking about.

Until I see sourced, non-faked SU-35s with PLAAF markings and hear the PLAAF or PRC officials talking specifically about them and saying, here are our new airraft that we purchased from the Russians...and then point to these pics...I simply will continue to believe, for whatever reason it has not happened yet.

I believe Deino was convinced the Su-35 has landed in China because he got the info from big shrimps. For now, I just hold my opinion because I neither see enough proof that it has landed nor I can prove that it hasn't landed. The Chinese officials never admit it but they never reject it either. I don't understand why they are creating such smoke screen. What's the big deal with Su-35? It's not a top of the line aircraft even in China's arsenal. If you buy, admit it. If you don't, reject it! Why?

Nobody claimed that the Su-35 would serve as OPFOR solely for the J-20. The unique technologies (however superior/inferior/comparable) and kinematics brought about by the Su-35 would be quite a blessing for the PLAAF to gain exposure to new flight envelopes. By the same token, a notional J-11D in Russian service would equally provide their RuAF with new insight regarding avionics/etc.

There are thousands of ways to support the Russian economy that are ultimately more sensible and effective than 24 Su-35s. Space technology, submarine technology, large aircraft, are perfect candidates to begin with.

No, and as such I think we simply have to leave the PLAAF do what they want; namely to keep in on low-profile or even secret but that does not mean it is not there.

Nonbelievers still waiting for the pictures of SU35 to confirmed, LOL. Those folks have to wait half more yr to be confirmed. So hold on to your seats tight!
By that time of confirmation, things already outdated and passed by...

The Chinese military has confirmed that it received four Russian-made Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets in late December, but noted that the Su-35 might be the last combat plane China would import thanks to its own defense advances.

The People's Liberation Army's website, 81.cn, recently said that with the commissioning of the J-20, China's domestically developed stealth fighter, Russia understood that the Su-35 "will lose its value on the Chinese market in the near future", so was eager to complete the Su-35 deal. The Su-35 is Russia's most advanced fighter jet in use.

The article also takes pride in the PLA no longer needing Russian-made air defense missiles or transport planes because it now has the indigenous, cutting-edge HQ-9B long-range surface-to-air missile and Y-20 strategic transport aircraft.

"Therefore we hope very much that Su-35 will be the last (combat) aircraft China imports," it said.

This is the first time the Chinese military has confirmed deliveries of the Su-35, though it did not elaborate.

the website doesnot belong to the PLA, neither is it official in any sense.

sorry, I mistook it for the website that spreaded the news.

it's old news. the message appeared on the 29th, it commented on the Su-35 purchasing news, and it credited the pictures in the message to the internet. so it's reasonable to assume they got the news from the internet.

so far, the only "source" is that internet news with the PSed photo and the faked vedio
