Chinese Naval Export: News, Views, Pics & Videos

One thing I want to say about the C28A if not mentioned before. This is a GREAT milestone for chinese naval shipbuilding.

This class of vessel is built to LR's Rules for Ships which means it's internationally recognize to be of the highest work and conforms to all the naval architecture and requirements of Llyod's Register of Naval vessels.

It basically means that the ships Algeria is getting would essentially be build the same exact way with the same exact materials, components etc than had these ships been built in say Europe, US etc instead of China. Plating thickness, wire standards, pipings. installs etc would all be essentially from the same specifications, types and methods.

To meet those requirements would be quite stringent and no doubt had a massive impact on how they do things in CSCC from program management, supply chain down to dock workers and installers.

If these ships are to serve the Algerian Navy well, CSCC would also garner good reputation for future export orders.

I personally do think the shipbuilding industry in China is and has been good. The only problem they have is from a marketing and reputation standpoint. I think these C28A is a very good start to sway opinions in years to come.

Also anyone noticed there are no stacks? I believe these ships have exhaust port near waterline to reduce IR signature.

This thread is about Chinese NAval Exports.

NOT about Singapore and its military, or how much it spends of its GDP on military, or who its neighbors are, or how weak or strong it is. I deleted all of that nonsense here on this thread.

Any more of such blatant OT and then a continuation of arguments about it will result in warnings and suspensions.

Get back on topic.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS MODERATION.

First Chinese-Built C28A Corvette for Algerian Navy Started Sea Trials in East China Sea

According to pictures taken by Chinese spotters, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a wholly owned subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC, the largest shipbuilding group in China) started sea trials of the first C28A Corvette on order for the Algerian Navy. Algeria signed a contract with China Shipbuilding Trading Co (CSTC) for construction of three C28A corvettes in March 2012.

HND (Henen Diesel Engine Corp, LTD) won a contract to supply 8 CHD622V20 engines to Russia. 4 each would power two Buyan-M-class corvettes to replace German MTU 16V4000M90s. Reportedly HND will deliver additional engines for all last 4 ships (serial no.636 to 639) with delivery around 2017-2019.

What's unclear from the story is if Henen CHD engines provide more power at same rates of fuel consumption than the German MTU engines, why didn't Russia buy the CHD engines in the first place? Are there quality, dependability, or maintenance issues not mentioned in the story?

CHD622V20 only matured near the end of 2014 after 3 years of R&D

and see the date of when they announced they finished development)

While MTU held the contract to supply engines before then. First Buyan with German engines was laid down in 2013 and commissioned in July 2014. Months before CHD engines finished testing.

The reason is because Russia is under sanction right now after that Ukrainian fiasco last year.
