Chinese military exports to other countries

well, I don't really know what to make of this. It says that Ecuador is buying 4 warplanes for $438 million. I really can't think of any Chinese warplane that would cost $110 million other than AWACS or another type of surveillance plane. And, I can't really imagine Ecuador needing that. So, I would guess the amount is for much less and it is for K-8s.

There still seems to be some confusion on the nature of the $50 million loan for Ecuador. The intended aircraft is for 4 MA60 transport. There is no corresponding article in Spanish for the article you have referenced above.

I guess this is not too surprising, but good to see that IN is buying both C-802 and C-705 missiles.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Navy`s warships will be equipped with missiles made in China, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Agus Suhartono said here on Monday.

"We will continue to procure C-802 missiles from China after we tested the weapon with good results,` he said adding that the Indonesian Navy was also negotiating with China to obtain C-705 missiles that were more slender in shape.

"Both types of missile will be added to the armament of of the navy`s fast patrol boats and Van Speijk warships," Agus said.

He said the navy would increase the combat capabilities of its Van Speijk and fast patrol boats by integrating their armament systems with weaponry from China.

"We are still unable to make missiles domestically. But fortunately, state shipbuilding firm PT PAL already has the technology to integrate weapon systems imported from abroad with those already in place on our warships," he said.

The navy chief admitted with limited budget for his department, his officials would continue making a priority scale on the procurement of weaponry system.

"Our main priority now is security in sea border areas and the outer islands of Indonesia," he said adding that the navy would also replace some 27 of its warships with newer types and better combat capabilities.

Agus Suhartono had previously said Indonesia`s western waters were prone to various maritime crimes such as smuggling, human trafficking and poaching.

"The sea crimes are not the only problems we have in the western waters. In these areas we also have border problems with India, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia," the navy chief said.

He said that in order to maintain security in the area, the navy conducted routine patrols in the Indonesian western waters. It had maintained a joint patrols with its counterparts from India, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Myanmar to buy 20 MiG-29 fighters for $570 mln - paper

A 400 million-euro ($570 mln) contract has been signed for the delivery of Russian MiG-29 fighters for the Myanmar Air Force, a source close to Russia's arms export monopoly told a business daily on Wednesday.

Vedomosti quoted the source at Rosoboronexport as saying the Russian bid to supply MiG-29 Fulcrum-D carrier-based fighter jets beat China's offer to sell its latest J-10 and FC-1 fighters.

Myanmar was rearmed with Chinese military aircraft worth some $2 billion in the 1990s, the paper said.

The country bought 12 MiG-29 fighters in 2001, but this contract is the largest since the 2007 unfulfilled contract to supply Algeria with 34 MiG-29 fighters.

In 2008, a contract for the supply of six MiG fighters was signed with Sri Lanka.

Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov announced last year that Russia would give Lebanon 10 MiG-29 fighter jets for free, Vedomosti said.

MOSCOW, December 23 (RIA Novosti)

Why would Myanmar buy a carrier based MiG-29 over the J-10 or FC-1?... Wouldn't a regular MiG-29 make more sense due to Myanmars... lack of any carriers at all?

my reading is that Mig-29SMT (I think that's an upgrade over an existing air frame) beat out JF-17 for this contract. It helps that Burma already have some Mig-29s.

The MiG-29SMT is indeed an old 80s era MiG-29 airframe spruced up with 21st century goodies. Interestingly enough its also the model of MiG-29 that was returned by Algeria for being unsatisfactory. I just found it odd that the article claimed that the MiG-29n variant in question was 'carrier based'.

Also it seems Russia is trying to undercut China's export of aircraft with even lower prices nowadays.

Strange I didn't think the Chinese had also offered the J-10, and i doubt they offered the latest variant J-10 either

to be honest, Chinese fighter exports is unable to compete with Russia, in fact, China's foreign arms exports in the world arms trade accounts for only a small share of the market.China needs time.

Maybe US but definitely not Russian. The only advantage Russian have for export is Su-27 base fighter which is a heavy weight 4th generation fighter.

FC-1 is designed as a low cost single engine which has low operating cost in mind for buyer. Russian has no modern single engine fighter to offer for export market. Myanmar opt for MIg-29 maybe they felt safer with a twin engine and also it matches it existing fleet of Mig-29 which reduces logisitc problem for them. But doesn't mean it will be cheaper in maintenance.

Don't forget, FC-1 is using engine approved by Russian. I don't think Russian is stupid to aprrove something that will work against their export interest.

China has proven it can match Russian export tank in VT-1A for Peru. In warship, if 540A can be export. It will be better than anything Russian can produce. Submarine, China has Song for export.

In army, I think that is where China can virtually matches anything Russian can throw. From arty, rifle, anti-tank missile, IFV,APC and self propelled gun.
