looks like TWZ has now caught onto the bird drones. I am somewhat impressed by the commandos moving around electric skateboards. That's pretty funny stuff.
Are the skateboards meant for rapid movement in an uncontested urban area? I can't imagine those being practical in a contested environment, or an unpaved environment. Although I think we saw them move across a grassy area.

Idk. I've seen Russians in Ukraine use motorbikes with success. Skateboard is almost certainly slower, but it would be easier to dismount.

PLA probably presumes drone supremacy, where a blanket of FPV/machinegun/grenade launcher drones rush forward first, then the infantry follows at the same time. Maybe them quickly skating towards the enemy is better than just running, as it makes them harder to target, especially by whatever drones enemies have.

Electric bikes would be superior in this role, since it would allow the soldier to carry additional load.

I really wouldn't read too much into it.

For a lot of these sort of exercises the equipment they showcase for cameras aren't necessarily part of regular equipment but just gimmicks.

Deploying a bird UAV from combat divers surfacing at the shore, soldiers manoeuvring on boosted board style skateboards... Come on.

I don't think it's meant too much. More to show that they are cool or something.

I would say that we are in the very early stage of this.

What commandos use will also be different from how regular army employs unmanned and robotic technology.

IMO the motorised skateboard/scooter thing are just a trial to evaluate its potential and not necessary will be a standard equipment. It is more like a faster alternative to foot patrol on city streets, an idea borrow from what the civilian police have been doing using the one wheel self-balancing electric scooters on their daily patrol in city squares, parks and airports etc.

These gadzets are nice for travelling from point A to point B in urban areas but not useful in combat situation other than for silent/low noise patrol.

I don’t see the issue with trying out gimmicks? How else are you supposed to innovate without trying the ideas out first?

The issue is not the gimmicks themselves, but rather people treating them as if they are representative of standard doctrine.

So trying to answer what the skateboards are "meant" for doens't make much sense.
