it's kind of interesting that they are still producing WS-9 at this point.

IIRC, CH-7 and GJ-11 both use WS-13 without afterburners.

I guess maybe they didn't think that was sufficient and WS-10 without afterburners isn't ready or not available.

So, that left them with WS-9 or turbojet engine.

To be honest more upgraded WS-9s aren't necessarily problematic, even the original Spey was developed into the Tay engine which is utilized on some business jets etc.

In terms of thrust, a non AB WS-13 without afterburners should be similar if not better than a non AB WS-9.
