As cool as all this sounds and actually is! This news is more than three years old and deals with theoretical stuff. It's not exactly possible to weaponise such a thing and test it as some sort of world destroyer.
Energy=force*distanceHow is that 30 kilowatt, or 100 kilowatt or even 1MW. going to compare against 5.3 million billion watts ? Which was 3 over years ago?
While that full 5.3 million billion watts might not be weaponisable, how about just only 0.1% or 0.01% of 5.3 million billion watts ?
How big is a single cylinder of titanium-doped sapphire about the width of a Frisbee.? For output of only 0.1% or 0.01% of 5.3 million billion watts should even be smaller I assume?
Not doable at all?
Again your guess as good as mine.
I agree that ripping apart fabric of space time is theoretical and in the future. When the Chinese team hoped to achieve output 100 million-billion-watts.
That they hope to do by 2023, the not so distant future. Note The U.S. Navy's new aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford might not be able to deploy until 2024.
So that meant we should not even talk of USS Gerald R. Ford ?
BUT,
in the meanwhile, in 2016, Chinese team acheived this. At the heart of the Shanghai Superintense Ultrafast Laser Facility (SULF), is a single cylinder of titanium-doped sapphire about the width of a Frisbee. After kindling light in the crystal and shunting it through a system of lenses and mirrors, the SULF distills it into pulses of mind-boggling power, achieving an unprecedented 5.3 million billion watts, or petawatts (PW) reported Science. ()
That was the reality , more than 3 years old. Where is that team now? Your guess as good as mine, but far far ahead of Muricans.
You note in the last ten pages of this thread, folks here going ape over Murican 3 30-kilowatt (LaWS) aboard the in the Persian Gulf. Or even 100 kilowatt Silent Hunter. Or even US Miracl produced over 1MW.

Energy=force*distance
Power=force*speed
speed=distance/time
means:
energy=power*time
time(pulse length)=energy/power
Above means that an 5.3 billion watt laser doesn't necessary to be able to burn through my skin event, if the energy of it is negligible (say 1 joule).
all that it takes is to divide the 1 joule with the 5.3 billion watt, and the resulting number is the pulse length .
So , the continuous energy of the laser can be 10 watt, and the peak energy 5.3 billion watt.
This type is not usable for any military purpose .
This are just random number, to show the pointless kind to compare the peak energy with the continuous energy.
Ok, then just replace the 5.3 billion watts with 5.3 million billion watts in the above equations.Not 5.3 billion watt, it is 5.3 million billion watts .
Try to read better next time and understand what you are reading.
Ok, then just replace the 5.3 billion watts with 5.3 million billion watts in the above equations.
Result is the same.
Maybe these links helps to understand how this kind of equipment works, and what is this used for :
Just a hint, the length of the emission is in the picoseconds range.
1976 , 4000 billion watts laser, 100 picosedonds pulse length .
The new ones are around in the range claimed by you everywhere around the world.
These are special, scientific research apparatuses , not designed for everyday use.
So what is your point ?
China's Airborne Laser Weapon Would Change Dogfighting Forever
That's so sensationalised. Can any of these western writers find balance, objectivity, truth, and accurate information? Apart from the tender info, everything else mentioned is worthless conjecture/ made up bullshit. Must be hard with that political agenda weighing down on them though.
It's like they are legally obliged to portray extremes of China only. It's either ridiculously negative or positive. China simultaneously exists as the greatest, well organised, cunning threat and the most incompetent fool.
