chinese laser weapon development

Railguns ...
I would add to that the problem of rail erosion. Huge currents can cause electric arcs, which damage the rails. The biggest US railguns have been capable of only a few shots before overhaul, and the chinese will have to tackle the same problems when they up their power.

"With new materials better able to endure the intense stresses, the barrels on the current test weapons can last for hundreds of shots before requiring replacement — roughly how long a battleship’s 16″ barrels lasted back in World War II. The goal is a barrel that lasts 1,000 rounds."

" A decade ago, experimental railguns often wore out their barrel with a single shot. Nice, I extended your quote by one sentence to show that barrel wear has been a problem. So from one shot to several hundred in a decade. I would call that a significant technical challenge, even if it appears to be a past one for the US.

It is a real problem and a llot of work has gone into mitigating it. This is just a quote from one paper by the naval research laboratory.

What do you know turn out the US more or less solve the problem So I expect China would do the same. Nothing is impossible if you put effort and money into it . And China has plenty of both

According to an article on the Chinese Army's Weixin account, a new anti-drone system from the Chinese company GuoRong Technology (国 蓉 科技 有限公司) has successfully conducted a series of test shots in the eastern suburbs. from Beijing.

The photos and video made public showed that this system, dubbed simply " Short Range Key Site Defense System " (要 地 近距 净空 防御 系统), fired at least twice with its power laser class of kW, including one on a plate of aluminum a few millimeters thick at a distance of 360 meters, and another on a drone that seems to be the model Phantom 3 of the Chinese manufacturer DJI flying at nearly a kilometer of the anti-drone system.

In less than ten seconds of illumination, the metal plate was pierced with a hole about four centimeters in diameter, and the drone, with its control unit destroyed by laser fire, finally crashed to the ground.

But the laser is not the only anti-drone weapon in the system, which is also equipped with an electro-optical jamming device to be able to neutralize not only drones of "big consumption" but also small flying machines, controlled or uncontrolled, which fly below 600 meters.

GuoRong's anti-drone system now consists of two trucks, one with a small rotating radar with a range of about 55 km plus electromagnetic interference antennas, and the other with an infrared turret, a tower optronic tracking and laser transmitter. As a result, the entire system is mobile and autonomous, making it easy to deploy to sites with little support infrastructure.

We also learn that the system had already conducted four drone interception tests organized by government organizations this year, and the results would be very satisfactory.

YONG Dan (雍 丹), product manager at GuoRong, says the company has already received two orders, and has also initiated trade talks with Chinese Police in Sichuan Province and Chengdu International Airport. -Shuangliu.

It should be noted that GuoRong is a subsidiary created in 2011 by Chinese group Baoding Swan (华 讯 方舟), which specializes in high-speed mobile network technologies. The company also offers drones,

This is very much a laser weapon.

I am really impressed by that fact that so many separate companies are making hard-kill laser weapons in China.
