I wonder what these modules are. Flotation devices or armor modules, maybe? But their placement seems strange, as some are placed on top of the vehicles in a haphazard manner. Also, are those pipes or some kind of jury-rigged means of attaching them to the vehicle?

Maybe those are not pipes at all, or if they really are, it might be a way to maintain the internal pressure of the boxes so that water couldn't go in when the boxes got penetrated.
