The geometries are similar, but the turret on the new IFV appears larger, at least width-wise. Do we know if the turret on VE32A is manned or unmanned?

Yes, it does appear like the turret on the real thing seems to be nearly as wide as the hull whereas on the VE32A it is quite a bit narrower.
Do we know if the turret on the new 8x8 IFV is actually that wide or if it is merely "offset" to the left side of the hull? I can't recall pictures of the 8x8 IFV from other angles apart from its left side.

edit: yeah nevermind, the turret on the 8x8 ifv is definitely very wide. Similar geometry to VE32A, but much wider.

WRT the turret, I couldn't find anything definitive, but this article says the turret is unmanned

Obviously for actual PLA commissioned vehicles I wouldn't take random articles seriously, but for vehicles and systems shown at zhuhai or tradeshows there's a possibility the author or writer might have actually attended the trade show and seen placards or was able to ask reps some questions.

Hi Bltizo,

It also had a pair of ATGM mount on the right side of the turret, I hope the main armament is the new 40mm telescopic gun.

A much clearer view of the new 8x8 IFV. You can see a significantly up-armored turret with what appears to be a 30mm (?) autocannon with fluted barrel.

I believe this is the armed recon IFV, it has many differences with the standard IFV we saw earlier. Its hull has a much taller rear half. I also has two of these big observation window on the side of the hull. This is quite different from the standard IFV. I believe this one has that extendable observation optics like what's on the other PLA recon vehicles platforms.

Its hull has a much taller rear half.
This "step" typically points to full-height infantry compartment.
Which, in turn, is necessary to account for growing average height of the dismount, increase comfort + provide space for mine/shock protection(suspended seats, etc).

Imho it's an IFV.

Yep, this variant (whatever it is) has two viewing ports per side, whereas the IFV variant has one viewing port/firing port combo per side.

Ok I have a noobie question, does the viewing port/s offer similar or close to protection as the armor plates? Also will the viewing port/s be most affected blasts/shrapnels if the side of the IFV was hit?
