Maybe they are testing the new turret's suitability for coastal amphibious operations by using the older Type 63A hull before retrofitting them to the ZTD-05s in active service.

If the issue is waterborne performance, it would make more sense to test it on a ZTD-05 hull itself imo.

Personally I suspect they just took some old vehicle hulls as a testbed for the turret for generic turret testing purposes.

Also note, the left side rear indicator on the last vehicle was installed wrong way around, the 3rd vehicle in line may also have the same issue.

The latest high-resolution images. I see laser warning receivers and external cameras along the topside of the hull. No frontal view of the box underneath the cannon though, so I can't tell for certain whether it houses the gunner's sight or something else. That small yellow protrusion (located above the second road wheel and with a star in the middle and) might be a safety reflector.

I wonder if there are extra fuel tanks in the protrusion above the wheels. The white things could be fuel inlet cover?
