Built with commercial off-the-shelf parts and techs
This aligns with what was revealed before the Trio: DF-17's accuracy exceeded the PLA's expectations, it can be much cheaper if performance requirements are lowered.

And this company chose to go even further, who would have thought that foamed cement could be used as a hypersonic insulation material

i knew last year when they came out with 筋斗云-400 RDE+Scramjet engine, they were going somewhere big.

I woke up this morning and everyone on the military or aerospace weibo were posting this. I would assume they get some kind of orders at this point, because this could significantly lower cost of 1IC strike even more.

Hole Hole the Chengdu Gay Guy thinks pretty pessimistically of it

The tech level here isn’t even in the same league as CASC or CASIC, and its reputation in the industry is… well, let’s just say strictly below entry level. Being generous, you might rate it at about 70% of what those North Korean exchange students at HIT can hand-build with their hypersonic projects. Their stuff is never going to get any traction in the domestic missile market, and they probably won’t even be able to scrounge a seat at the table in the export market either.

Right? Its accuracy is several times worse than the extended-range Scuds Saddam was cobbling together decades ago. We’re talking about the kind of CEP where even putting a tactical nuke on it might not reliably kill the target. You buy this thing basically just to set off fireworks; when it comes to genuinely high-end kit, you really can’t take this sort of back-alley marketing seriously.

i don't buy it he is not that credible.. we cannot ignore this development from a private company.

company didn't even publish the actual flight data and other specification. they are investing heavily in hypersonic space plane and related technologies also successfully demonstrate Engine and vehicle..

flight testing of Jindouyuan 筋斗云-400 Ramjet + Rotating Detonation engine. Took just 8 months from start of project to 1st flight. 3min test flight, performance was beyond expectations > 400 kg thrust + Mach 4 cruising @ 20km altitude.

窜天石猴 (aka sky-high stone monkey) will be the supersonic aircraft utilizing 2 Jindou-400 engines Weighs 1.5 ton & 7.0 m long Expect prototype to fly in 2027..

Being used for target practice is one potential application. But then why are they advertising the ability to hit Japan and CSGs?

Another way to look at this news is: if they had truly been able to secure the interest of The User, then there likely wouldn’t have been such news about it in the first place.

But I mean, look at the attention they’re getting. They know what they’re doing, lol. "Even a Chinese civilian company can make hypersonic missiles to hit Tokyo!"

Well, the company certainly does other things, and this isn’t to devalue those other projects. But the standards are not equal between the different projects, and the tech is not 100% transferable. I would weight the opinions of those who are closer to the industry fairly highly here. As usual, we can wait and see.
