Chinese Hypersonic Developments (HGVs/HCMs)

No, the physics is the same, it's just US engineering that's inferior. Show me the law of physics that states hypersonic vehicles can't have high lift to drag ratios - which of Newton's laws does that one follow from?

Let's be careful. Comments like that are often made about Chinese engineering and we know them to be wrong. The HTV-2 effort was 11 years ago! Much may have changed and blanket statements are rarely a good idea.

This entire article is basing most of it's argument on that one US test with HTV-2 failing to achieve a high L/D (it tested at 2.6, apparently it was designed with a much higher L/D in mind around 4~6)

So it is saying since US couldn't achieve high L/D on a single test (which they then abandoned the project), China and Russia also can't?
You have to understand that the US sets the limit on what's physically possible. If the US can't do it, no other country or even alien civilization can do it. That's the real law of physics.

The article mentioned with waverider design it could get up to 6 in theory (I assume for Mach 20 vehicle), it is entirely possible the HTV-2 simply got the wrong shape, or there were unforeseen engineering complications we don't know about. The thing is US then gave up on it, on the other hand China and Russia has been working on it consistently over the last decades, heck China even built a Mach 20+ hypersonic wind tunnel....

I guess thats why we been hearing those silly exclamation of "Physics defying feat".....

I again call attention to a Guancha article I linked in another thread

The article mentions KD-114, an air-launched nuclear-capable hypersonic missile designed for China's "newest generation" strategic bomber. The author (a well-known aerospace content creator on Bilibili) claims it flies entirely within the atmosphere and is intended to neutralize US GMD in Alaska.

simply linking the dots: i've read chinese scientists tailking about a Gel that protects the vehicle by ablation or somerthing similar. I've read chinese talking about a laser that breaks the air in fron of an hypersonic vehicle, after some time a chinese hgv does the World Tour travelling in the high atmospher in one hour. In my opinion its completely feasible.

I hope that china and russia will begin to join forces in hypersonic research: Zircon missile in china and china Fobs in russia. The tecnological edge of usa is near to crack
