What are you on about? Are we even reading the same words? Here I am, getting all excited about the most important thing to happen to Chinese domestic politics and closely watching Xi the chessmaster paying the real life Game of Thrones. And you're interpreting this as someone gloating about the coming downfall of China?

Adjust the len with which you view the world, friend. Not every one is out to get you.

Why are you so excited about China domestic politics anyway? Is there "hope and change" that your government might do the same?

Ling Jihua was in charge of the guards at Zhong Nan Hai, that makes him the Captain of the Pretorian Guards. When his son crashed his Ferrari, he mobilized the guards to clean up the scene. When that blew up on the Chinese blogosphere, Hu's enemies used it against him and he had to do something. The fact that he got a do-nothing gig is a sign of patronage. Now his whole clan is getting purged.
Taken down!

Zhou Yong Kang. Chief of Internal Security. In charge of the Police, secret police, and public prosecution. Bigger budget than the PLA. For Hu, he was the Hammer, the edge of His Sword, the tip of His Spear, the mail about His Fist, the flight of His Arrows. The right hand of the Chairman, The instrument of His will.
Taken down! Much too powerful of a post for Xi to leave to a Hu/Jiang loyalist.

Lt. Gen Gu Junshan, Deputy Chief of the PLA's General Logistics Department. PLA's Paymaster.
Taken down! A message to the generals. Remember who pays your salary now. The PLA as you know is filled with Jiang loyalists.

Just to name a few off the top of my head.

Whether they were targeted only because they were under the influence of former leaders is not clear.
As it's been stated repeatedly, if only officials under the patronage of former leaders were targeted then there would be a greater argument for this being a purge. The fact that it is a far wider campaign aimed at high but also many and more lower status officials makes one wonder if those officials allied with former leaders were taken down because they happened to be allies/hold particular political aims, or whether they were the worst of the top dogs.

Also even if this were a purge, it is worth noting that not all are inherently negative; it depends on what the motivations, aims, and policies of the various individuals are. Individuals and political groups in democracies also get sidelined and marginalized depending on the will of party or state leaders, in autocracies it is of course a little more dramatic but the aims for this marginalization is not particularly dissimilar. Of course we don't know the intimate aims and policies of the various individuals so we don't know what effect they would have had on the country's direction, so it's obviously impossible to judge whether their removal from power is concretely a positive or negative thing.

Can I ask why you are excited?

I mean, as a person of chinese descent I am naturally supportive of any means to reduce excess and corruption among officials -- but excitement seems to suggest some kind of fascination instead. Clearly our difference in opinion is due to our difference in how we view the campaign, so let's lay the cards on the table, how do you see this campaign, what are its aims, and why does it excite you?

Zip yourself up. Your agenda is showing. I find the real life Game of Thrones much more stimulating than anything Hollywood can come up with.

Now go away.

US and Japan are in a declining economic state meanwhile New Zealand and Denmark are way too small in population to be compare with China. Don't underestimate the will and resilience of the Chinese people and it's leadership. Other wise why do you think their civilization lasted so long?

The US is definitely not in decline, quite to the contrary, she's still rising and her best days are still ahead of her. China, on the other hand, has and is rising much faster than the US, so relative to the Middle Kingdom, it looks like US is in decline. However, relative to most of the world, it's just the opposite. Bottom line is both countries are still ascending, with China on a steeper curve that overtook US economy this year in PPP terms, and might overtake nominal US GDP in the next two decades or so.

Agreed on resilience of China's more than 5,000 years civilization, with many periods in the sunshine. There will always be a China, because the vast majority of Hans believe to their core the #1 duty of any Chinese government is to preserve the Chinese Civilization. Any government that fails in that duty loses the Mandate of Heaven, and fall violently.

Then you are as good as making speculations without sound basis.

In basic logic, not all assertions are either totally true or false but multitude of possibilities in between and hence the law of excluded middle. Speculation is not required here - just whether it is within the realm of possibility.

Oh I dunno. Nordic countries? New Zealand maybe? But of cause, of cause, you would say that China's history and unqiue circumstances does not lend to a fair comparsion. Just like how gun control will never be implmeneted in America due to her unique history and circumstances right? So as America must get use to periodic incidence of gun violence, China must get use to a certain level of corruption...etc etc etc

So New Zealand and the Nordic countries have less corruption, what does that tell you? Income!

As you go down the list, you find poorer Third World nations. As the nations become richer, temptation becomes less, generally speaking. That China does not rank among the top thirty should not surprise anyone. But it is always the Western media that love to make a fuss over it, not because they are unaware but because of ideology. But if it is the Chinese who point it out, I believe it is because of ignorance and frustration.

You want know which First World country that is small and yet a humdinger of legalized corruption?

Singapore!

Do a search on the world's highest paid leaders. You will have a WTF moment, I promise.

You are still speculating despite your denial. Anything is possible so long as you allow your mind. That is your logic.

Ok, this is the Chinese General News ,,,,,,,, not the Snipe at America thread,,,,,,,, and I realize that all this sniping is very flattering to the US, and I take it as a very sincere compliment that so many, feel the need to so frequently "bash America" but really it does get a little old. Yes, I am personally very disappointed with the direction that XI is taking China, and yes it is counter-productive to friendships and business, but more importantly National Security.....XI is once again pulling the curtain on openness and friendships. Those with strong Western ties are no doubt suspect,,, very sad days for both our countries, is the US perfect---NOT-----but there is a great deal more freedom here than any other country on the planet, and most states allow their citizens who pass a back-ground check and take some basic weapons training to "conceal and carry", that my friend is "trust", show me another nation who trusts her citizens with that kind of freedom. Freedom does come with risks, but an educated, empowered society, with the "unhindered flow of information" is still a wonderful place to live, prolly why you live HERE bro????

Now, as a free citizen, our hopeless, change-it all dude is a mess, he has been an unmitigated disaster on every front, starting with the greatest health care system in the world, most fertile business climate on the planet, and government of the people and by the people, each of these areas have "demonstrable brokenness" under the Barack Hussien Obama regime, and don't get me started on the permanent damage that he is brokering on our own National Security....

So with these two characters on the loose, well give me a couple more "sleeping pills", on second thought, DON'T, my nightmares are bad enough with-out em??

so lets get back on topic and hope the mods delete about 3/4s of these off topic posts, and guys start with mine!

oh, and our brother here is prolly packin heat, you can bet he owns a heater???? or can you?????
