Translation: this is a list of the only 5 Chinese actresses I know about, because, let's face it, I don't know that many Chinese actors, male or female.

Mulan is a young woman, a teenager. All those actresses are way too old.

And predictably...

So now the Dragon Girl is going to be Hua Mulan? Geeze, how can anyone look at Liu Yifei and think she's a dude?

Jiang Luxia would've been a far better choice. Anyone watched Vampire Warriors? That girl can fight. All Liu Yifei can do is pose.

China's greatest generation from Beijingwalker Pakdef His word

The hottest new release movie in China now. Everyone in China talks about this movie. The movie is a tribute to the old generations who were young in the late 70s and early 80s. The movie touched the Chinese and Vietnamese war which is rarely shown in Chinese media and many young Chinese now don't know anything about it.
A generation who lived in absolute poverty but were always ready to give everything they had, even their lives without any hesitation if asked by the country. That spirit was forever gone in China now.

I agree it is this generation now in late 50 and 60 who pulled China out of poverty and toward prosperity. They give everything what they got. I am not sure about the younger generation

My parents went to see this the other day and said it was a good portrayal of their younger days.

Looks like a great movie. Would love to see it.

About Sino-Vietnamese war - I heard they were soundly defeated, several divisions got wipe out by the battle hardened VC.
It was a humiliating defeat that's why it was buried in the history and rarely talked about.

Thats simply not true, both parties suffered big human loss. But China achieved most (if not all) objectives.

China was at the lowest point and VC was battle hardened and plus Soviet Union

Also the best Chinese troops and equipment were stationed in the border with USSR to prepare of USSR attack, so the Chinese troops and equipment entering Vietnam were not the best

It is not defeated Actually Chinese take a whole swath of Vietnamese territory around Langsong and do the scorched earth policy of burning any structure down. It is actually 2 wars The first one gone badly for China but the 2nd one China did prevail in 1988 China fought a seawar and occupy what is now Johnson island. so at the conclusion of the war China gain SCS island and some land territory

But yes they suffer high casualty because it basically still follow infantry attack of Korea and civil war But the terrain is different . Here the jungle provide a good hideout for the defensive forces. The high casualty is attributed to lack of APC and poorly trained and led troop. Poor and outdated equipment due to cultural revolution when the army neglecting the training and the defense industry is neglected.

On the other hand Vietnam just come of long and successful war against the US. they are at the peak of the skill and determination. got full backing of Soviet Union with material and logistic support

They withdraw unilaterally because the cost of holding it is too expensive and the objective is to serve notice to Vietnam to induce them to retreat out of Cambodia. And also as revenge to maltreatment of Chinese Vietnamese. Both countries just come out of traumatic experience and later on due to collapsed of soviet Union Vietnam has no more support to continue the war so they sue for peace leaving Cambodia and all goes well. Diplomatic and trade relation resumed
So tactically China it is a draw but strategically China won because Vietnam leave Cambodia and China gain

It was not talk about because of political consideration They don't want to poison relation with Vietnam. It is sad because many young people give their live and they should be honored
But recent year saw reevaluation of the war when many veteran of the war start talking and publishing book Someday they should open this unlucky border war. This film is one of the attempt to remind the younger generation of the sacrifice that was made by the older generation

Here is the conclusion of the war
Border skirmishes

Armed conflict only ended in 1989 after the Vietnamese agreed to fully withdraw from Cambodia. Both nations planned the normalization of their relations in a secret summit in Chengdu in September 1990, and officially normalized ties in November 1991.

In 1999, after many years of negotiations, China and Vietnam signed a border pact.

There was an adjustment of the land border, resulting in Vietnam giving China part of its land which was lost during the battle, including the

which served as the traditional border marker and entry point between Vietnam and China, which caused widespread frustration within Vietnam. Vietnam's official news service reported the implementation of the new border around August 2001. In January 2009 the border demarcation was officially completed, signed by Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Dung on the Vietnamese side and his Chinese counterpart,
