Unbeknownst to many, the FWS-10 series has, in effect, become one of the world’s most widely deployed advanced afterburning turbofan engines with a low bypass ratio for military aircraft. The J-16 and J-16D series are all equipped with FWS-10 engines, with total production exceeding 400 aircraft and more than 800 engines installed. For the J-20 series, apart from the early production batches, all units currently in service use the FWS-10 series engines, amounting to over 200 aircraft and more than 400 engines installed. The J-11B/BS series also exclusively uses the FWS-10, with a combined production of nearly 300 aircraft and close to 600 engines installed. Including the domestically re-engined J-10 series and the export-oriented J-10CE for Pakistan, the number of FWS-10 (Taihang) engines installed on active fighter jets likely reaches or even exceeds 2,000 units.
