I'm not sure if AEP500 is still a thing. An official report on a 2024 meeting on materials certification only mentioned AEP400 and not AEP500. Given that the plan was for AEP500 to receive certification in 2028 it should have been discussed. Perhaps they're only expecting flatrated applications so they are only going to certify the engine for flatrated uses and renamed it AEP400.
AEP-500 is the project, actually started by the orders directly from the higher authorities.

project approved in 2017 and came into public in 2018.. prototype constantly being displayed in all Zhuhai air shows. AEP-500 program going as per the plan. nothing has changed. 2028 certification date is not an official. it is randomly given by some Weibo users. certification timeline depend on, how desperately Xian Aircraft wants those engines..

AEP-500 project has completed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AEP-500 and this recently announced AEP-400 are next generation turboprop engines being developed to replace older WJ-6.. if you see my older massages, PLAAF is not much happy with WJ-6 engine performance.. cruise speed and fuel consumption is not really upto the mark.

as i said before, Military engines supply chain is interconnected. so it is easy to develop these machines. AEP-400 developed from AEP-500 is the showcase of strong foundation of Gas turbine industry built by China. in just short span of time, they developed AEP-400.

It could be that an earlier (years perhaps) meeting has happened for AEP500 without being made public. Whatever we hear or see is only a snapshot of a moment, it doesn't present the whole time line.

why AEP-500 didn't make headlines in public/media. because there was no imminent application of this engine except MA-700 that was under development. neither this engine has any military application..

MA-700 took 2 flights so far. and nobody knows the engines.. but what we have seen recently, AEP-400 news. so it might be with AEP-500 engines. who knows

another point, Xian Aircraft is too secretive. MA-700 is also closely guarded.

but the good news is, KJ-600 will have brand new engines. finally no more WJ-6.

I believe we had this conversation before in this very thread. No, the 2028 timeline wasn't given by some rando on Weibo, it's literally stated at an official conference.

Possible but materials certification is a long process. AES100's materials certification was only completed in April this year, 5 months before the type certification was issued. It's not going to be settled with a single meeting, and given the 2028 certification timeline for AEP500 I would be surprised if they just left out AEP500 in such a meeting if it's still a thing. Note that the certification process for three other engines discussed in the meeting started in 2022 and they're much further along in development than AEP500.

Also when I said AEP500 might not still be a thing I didn't mean the design was scrapped or anything like that. For all we know AEP400 could be exactly the same design as AEP500, but they're just going to certify it for flatrated applications and call it AEP400.

Just fyi employment can happen before certification is complete, especially if you’re not selling for commercial, and testing precedes certification regardless.

they never said 2028 being the certification year. it is the author who actually wrote the article..

from last decade to till 2022 Zhuhai Air show and last year Shanghai aerospace show. AECC never officially disclose the certificate date for any engine. that's not their pattern. the only time they give some hint about CJ-2000 certification during 2021 Zhuhai air show. its 2030..

but i agreed with you on this. certification takes time especially material verification and collecting flight data.

All true but none of these points contradict what I've said. It could be that what's being tested on the testbed was what had been called AEP500 which is now AEP400 because it's going to be certified for flatrated applications only. Maybe it's also exactly the same engine as WJ-10 and WJ-10 will be installed on KJ-600 before the civil certification process is complete. So it could be that physically AEP500=AEP400=WJ10. None of these contradicts the points I made.

It obviously comes from the organizers of the conference. Do you think some journalists wrote that?
