Heavy attack helicopters are usually 10 ton class, and WZ-10 engine on Z-20 is more than enough to power it.

I thought theres WZ-10 or was it 16 in the pipeline?
China developing 8000KW power Heavy turboshaft engine for 38-40 tons Super heavy Cargo helicopter. (joint venture between Russia-China).
WZ-16 is for AC352 Helicopter new variant ..

This has been known for quite some time. Mi-26 helicopter replacement program. Named "Advanced Heavy Lift" program.
I did not know China was making its own engine though. Russia is supposed to be developing the PD-12V engine for this. I know the Russians were testing the turboshaft for that engine trying to get it up to specification. But I have no data on the engine core being available yet.

Yuan Lanfeng is a computational chemist and a well-known science writer. He's definitely not an engineer of any kind, but here he's discussing a social media post by someone who supposedly knows quite a bit about Chinese aerospace engine industry. It's worth listening to for those who haven't read the original article, IMO.
He is a scientist. At age of 23, obtained PhD in chemist from University of Science and Technology of China. Did postdoc research at Cornell University and Princeton University for several years. And now works in University of Science and Technology of China as researcher. He does not have aero-engine background. But he is famous for writing articles and producing videos about science to the general public. With his position and connection, he has plenty opportunities to communicate with and get information from the real experts from different fields, interview them for his articles and videos.
