Without doubt , it is AL-31F.this aircraft is often mistaken for a full or final version of J-11B prototype!

powerplant : AL-31F
its flameholder assembly features 3 flameholder rings and some radial interconnectors.

the hook thing looks like the DPI-1500 (ionization sensor)...

@ maya & crobato !

Thanks for Your posts even if I'm still not 100% sure ... esp. with the WS-10 equipped testbed (are You sure that this Flanker has its engines removed ??? ... I think I have a clearer picture at home) :confused: but as the flying Flanker with boths engines installed shows the difference in length quite clearly !?

Anyway I'm glad taht we agree, that that J-11B with the MAW's is still powered by an AL-31F !

I look at that Flanker now and given the length of the "vanes" I would say that's actually ring that holds the engine. The real engine is not there.

I can't say the difference of length is clear because the petals are folded differently. We do know that a Flanker served as a testbed had both the WS-10A and the AL-31F engines installed. The plane tested the WS-10A by shutting the AL-31F off, letting the WS-10A power the aircraft on its own.

Hmmm ??? I'm still not sure, esp. a that "ring" that holds the AL-31F engine sits much further in front and has a completely different "structure" in comparison to the one with (or without) the WS-10.

Sadly these two pictures are not from the exact same angle ...

You can't have one ring. The J-11 being towed only has one discernible ring. The second ring would have to be the nozzles themselves. And as I said previously, distance by judgment is not trustworthy.

Besides that "waiting" for ... how long do You think or expect do we have to wait for the first pirctures of a WS-10-exipped J-10 ??

it has a snippet in there that states the goal of 2009 for Guizhou Liyang, is to ensure that development and mass production work needed for the new engine (which I'd assume has to be WS-13) is complete. So, I'm guessing some form of production will start in 2010.

It could also be the WS-12, there was talk a few weeks ago of a major JH-7 upgrade but I guess the WS-13 is a big priority for Guizhou Liyang since I haven't heard of any new RD-93 orders from Russia in awhile.
