Chinese Engine Development

WS10A, WS13, WS18 are all same generation of technology.

The day China mass production all above type of engines is the day they truly mastered that generation of turbo fan engine.

I just don't see how the current claim of WS10A is production, and then WS13 has issues can be consistent. They are all belong to same generation.

Because different companies are responsible for the project and have different levels of success?

that discussion was a this forum ca. December 2012 (or 2011?) in Transport Aircraft thread, but googling exact phrase now leads to nowhere (WTF?)

Pretty sure it's still there but lazy to look at exact messages links

>WS-20 is the same engine its model has been showed as SF-A.

>You are correct, there are three major high bypass ratio engine projects going on.

1. Leap-X1C domestic assembly, cooperation with CFMI, primary engine for C919.
2. CJ1000A, designed with MTU, secondary engine for C919.
3. WS20, formerly known as SF-A, developed from WS10A (CFM56 core), primary engine for Y20, former backup engine of C919.

>Actually, WS-20 has always been WS-20. SF-A was the civilian version of WS-20 intended for C919, but that plan was subsequently canceled because the engine would not be competitive. According to Pupu, WS-20's development is the smoothest among all the domestic engines programs.

I would be very surprised if WS-18 is actually in service on any aircraft right now. They bought a large number of D-30KP2. It makes no sense for them to purchase that many if they can mass produce WS-18.

They bought only 150 D-30K2 engines, I don't think that is a large amount if you consider replacement for old IL-76 which one will need 4 of them. Follow by Y-20 whch require also 4 of them. H-6K too need at least 2 of them.

Because we have witness and account quite an number of WS-10A in use. If 200 of them in service is not by production then I do not know how do they make out so many of them?

WS-13 is a low priority project. The immediate end user is Pakistan and the uncomfirm J-31. Therefore it do not take an expert to figure out most resources are not pour into it. Then you need to remember WS-15 which is an important project that will also take away significant amount of talent and resources. Why would I be suprised if WS-13 has many issues despite being in the same generation of WS-10A? Definitely, the lacking of talent and resources due to low priority has result in the slow progress.

The aerospace summit pdf had a lot of people ,local and foreign officials. I give it more credibility than internet forum chat.
