Chinese Economics Thread

From the look of the Shanghai Composite Index, the Chinese economy is being goldilocked. Jim O' Neil said a few days ago that the Chinese slowdown is not as bad as expected. I think any major improvement is being hampered by debt caution. I would not be surprised if the Index goes down to 2500 again next year.

Reading this article my mind went to where they were accusing China of some conspiracy of stockpiling oil just so they can release it just to control the market or some plot at market manipulation like where it's said only 6% of oil bought on the market is actually purchased for use. The rest is just stock traders trading oil trying to make more money. And then the last paragraph in the end reveals they just don't like the idea that if world oil prices go up, China just won't buy oil and use its reserve thus oil producers don't make as much money as they would like because China isn't buying. Is that some nefarious crime? The capitalists are actually communists and they want to dictate to china what it has to and cannot buy. China has to help them get rich by buying oil they don't need because they have a reserve.

Double standards against China all over the place. If China doesn't behave like a tool then it will be wildly accused of cheating, being evil, or not playing by the "rules" or "norms".

Then if China does behave like a tool, they will say Chinese people are dumb and stupid and lack creativity.

And then they also want China to behave like not just some tools, but certain kind of tools. Like when Hollywood movies like Warcraft and Terminator Genysis got huge box office in China, they accuse China of artificially keeping bad movies afloat, even though the Hollywood studios got most of the profits and Chinese ticket sales were what kept many American jobs... So the Land of Free wants another country to not only like American entertainment but only the kind of entertainment enjoyed by majority of Americans. Talk about freedom...

It's all about keeping a certain kind of narrative that could favor the US in geopolitical arena. It's never was about freedom.

Along the same lines as one of the abusive "model minority" prejudices in the US that Asians are supposed to keep their heads down, work harder than others, for less compensation. So if Asians don't keep their heads down they must be troublemakers, if they don't work harder than others they must be lazy, if they demand more compensation they must be greedy. Blatant "heads I win, tails you lose" double standards.

Of course it's all about maintaining US primacy, of course it is! So the F what? You fanbois act like it's OK for China to pursue its national interests, but not for the US. We live in the real world where it's perfectly just and right for US, China, and all other countries to pursue their national interests above all others.

No no, of course it's ok and actually the only sensible way for each country to fight for its own interests. But we're just discussing how seemingly... petty it is that if the US achieves a technology, China would usually say, "New technological breakthrough once again showcases American ingenuity; we must work hard to catch up and learn" while if China makes a breakthrough, the American narrative usually sounds like, "Chinese supposedly cracked X technology though if they have, they probably stole or hacked it from someone (even though no one else has it yet), probably can't be trusted to use it responsibly (only our definition of responsible counts), likely won't be able to find a way to practically use it, and with all the human rights abuses, fetus-eating, oppression, and economical disaster impending, they're screwed anyway, so let them enjoy their crumbs while they can cus we're totally gonna get something better up and running within 6 months." 6 months later, crickets chirping. But it's cool. They do them; we do us. Just discussing.

The world doesn't revolved around US primacy? China's interests is a lot different than say the US interests. China is not doing any regime changing or "dictator" removing world wide out of some fake "national security" interests do they? You "fanbois" act as if the US could never do no wrong. That they are the exception?o_O

It's OK for the US to pursue its interests. Though as the US is the sole superpower with such a wide lead in overall power over everyone else, with its own superlative rhetoric claiming the mantle to represent "freedom" and "human" rights universally etc. then it is only natural that there are higher expectations for it than others. US rhetoric is also so commonly and extremely deceitful, condescending, hypocritical, loud, and persistent that its actions have to be called out just to see the walk for the walk versus the talk for the talk.
