Why sell panama ports at all. Let us force panama to use government laws. Let us actually invade panama. China should not give anything to us for free
this is the way, it's like tiktok, they tried to force it for many years and eventually failed, only to make a mockery of themselves. Lee's clan is so shortsighted and cowardly lol. They would've been better off if they had play the patriot card and publicly refused to bow to pressure. now they are going to be disliked by both sides.

The idiotic action of the old money man exemplifies the cockroach mentality that's pervasive amongst Hong Kong people writ large. Which is why we saw a bunch of idiotic protests from 2014 and then in 2019. This old fossil is no different in my view than the equally contemptuous Jimmy Lai - who should have been hanged in my opinion.

Why not just let a state owned company buy it at the same price that Black Rock were offering.
Because the US will just force Panama to capitulate and nationalize the ports later. The Trump government, especially, does not operate by rule of law, and the US's long arm jurisdiction in South America is strong.

But I still agree that it's better to force the US to play their hand than to just give it up. The key, though, is not to give the US a chance to seize the assets without compensation. For example, by modifying the deal to joint ownership where Black Rock buys 50% of the ports for 50% of the cash, but also needs to provide a security deposit equal to 50% of the sale price, so that if the ports are ever seized, China gets to keep that deposit.

Not really related to the thread but its really amazing how many so called consultancy firms or organizations turned out to be paid off by the government.

And America has the gall to claim China stuff is state backed. At least China is honest about it. Meanwhile I wouldn't be surprised if turns out half of these American orgs all were funded by the government but were hidden away.

This show that independent private enterprises that America preaches on is a load of crap. A lot of things are only possible because of the government.

An interesting piece debunking the so called "consumption degradation" in China. Written in Chinese. Use your favourite AI for translation.

The key point by the author, IIUC, is that the economic stats published by the authorities are badly out of date in methodology to reflect the reality. The author believes that the price drops in foods and manufactured goods are just the result of productivity gains. The consumption data are overlooking the "intangible" services not directly related with manufacturing.
