Xiaomi and Oppo are really pathetic. They are just passively waiting until the US also cuts their access to chips like lambs to the slaughter.
They should at least be funding the Chinese semi industry so they have actual alternatives.

Oppo is funded primarily through US capital. They tried to start their own chip business but that fizzled out as soon as US government started ramping up pressure. Luckily Hisilicon managed to poach many of their talents after they got laid off.

For the US, decoupling from China is easier said than done. For example, the cfr article above mentioned that Mexico exported a lot more auto parts to the US in 2023. However, a lot of these actually came from China.

Some Chinese e-commerce outlets are doing well selling to the US.

Does China count these cross border e commerce sales in its overall export numbers.

If the Chinese have to manufacture cars in Europe, what will the prices be like, given that they have to employ European workers and European wages and follow European work rules, also the EU will likely require than something like 80 percent of the parts have to be sourced from the EU, so they will have to depend on the European supply chain, and not just import CKD and assemble them there.
