There will be a huge jump in power efficiency when GAA transistors come into service around the 3nm or 2nm node.
This should likely happen in two years.
By that time Huawei's products will be noncompetitive in the high end regardless of how good their chip design is.
Welp. Guess we heard it here first. Huawei's future is going to be bleak.

It won't make a difference for smartphones. We've already reached the limit of what humans require. If the phone lasts a whole day, it's enough. And most people don't play the type of games that require fast chips on their phones. 7nm is good enough for humans

I'm new to this. Do you have to install HMS core before Harmony OS?
Harmony Os comes with HMS core.
HMS core comes with App Gallery, which I recommend to install on Android to get a hang of what to expect before going to Harmony Os. Yes I had installed App Gallery with HMS core on my OPPO android for some time before going Harmony OS on my P30 Pro. I believe all previous Huawei Android models comes with App Gallery and HMS core, like mine.
I had some useful but not essential Apps(forgotten already) that don't run on Harmony OS, so be sure all your important Apps are listed on App Gallery or known to run on Harmony OS before moving over.

Yep, I'm using 8nm phone (Snapdragon 690 from ~mid 2020) as my daily driver while travelling in China.... I can't tell the difference compared to my 4nm phone (Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from ~mid 2022) that I regularly use in US. The apps, browser, photos, all feel similar.

The only time I notice a difference is unlocking my KeePass password manager, since it uses 256-bit AES encryption. 8nm takes 6-7 seconds, whereas 4nm takes 4 seconds, so an extra 2-3 seconds. Only that is noticeable, but rarely do it. Most time just browse internet, watch TikTok, check emails, and some photos.

High-end phones are luxury items. What sells is fluff + brand prestige. Do people really buy high-end Swiss watches for their allegedly superior movements (are they really better than Grand Seiko)? Do people really buy Hermes bags for craftsmanship (which I've been told is bar none)? Performance is already good enough for most people unless there are radically new applications. If I'm in the market for a 7000 yuan phone today I'd buy a Huawei Mate 60 Pro. Yes the newest iphones are much faster, so what? Why should I even care?

Agreed I still use my mate 20 pro and works like a charm. I actually installed HMS core and app gallery onto my phone with android base, back when Huawei still used Android. Works well. Unfortunately they took away Petal search and replaced it with bing. That was unfortunate. Not that Petal search was good but it was a start.
