German government is literally going broke. Tearing out existing telecom components and replacing them is very expensive. Beggars can’t be choosers.
This is not just about allowing continued use of existing telecom equipment from China. It also allows new equipment from China to be installed, which they need if they want to upgrade to 5G at a reasonable price and timeline.
Stuck between a rock and a hardplace. Can they really afford to block Huawei but lose even more marketshare in the Chinese car market.

Huawei goes from releasing images of a beat up airplane saying they just want to survive (all the while remaining the dominant telecom company in the world), to releasing a new phone and now taunting America with it.

If they really believed that Huawei is unsafe, they could clench their teeth's and squeeze out the money to replace the gear.
But obviously, they know its not the case lol, so why squeeze and cut budgets for it?

One of the authors got his PhD in economics at North Illinois University and the other got his PhD in economics at George Mason University. No offense, but I think it's safe to say that anything that comes out of their mouths is as useful as white noise
