Well, all of these are good things, right?

This is Chinas direction anyway, it will keep opening up no matter what the EU does.
true. no matter what, China will continue to deepen ties with EU countries. PRC always play long term game. in 2022, first time Chinese investment in EU surpassed USA. European top high tech firms keep investing in China, establish production and research base. local industries get a lot tech transfer. win win situation

There were a lot of compromises given. Here is a summary of them:

The CAI deal would have been a win-win for both China and EU. When the deal was first announced in 2020, people here were chanting how it's a win for China against the US. Now that the deal is on hold, we are saying its actually a blessing in disguise, lol.

China wouldn't have compromised too much. Domestic firms in many of these sectors have achieved world class standards. Foreign competition, not protectionism is more beneficial.

It's also in line with China's overall plan of furthering reform and opening-up. And it would have been a huge win to further integrate EU - China economies amidst US attempts to isolate China.

Nope, I've always maintained the position that China gave up more than necessary under CAI.

It's not a blessing in disguise, but Europe is dumb to reject a good deal for political brownie points.

Win -Win for both. But China lost more without the deal. Certain parts of US strategy is clear, China saw that from the beginning.

It would have been better for China if EU - China furthered its integration, even if China “sacrificed” a bit more in the short term. “Sacrifices” China can more than make up for in the long term.

Additionally, the deal would’ve set up high standards for liberalization of investments, regulatory framework, sustainable development, and many other areas that would benefit China.

Finally,China’s opening up process is based on a theory of “learning by doing”. CAI would’ve provided a good opportunity for China to further adapt its industries (esp. it’s service sectors) to new and emerging standards/practices.

Really? China lost more?

What did china get out of the agreement with the EU? High standards of opening up? Why can't china do it in their own time without the agreement? What did the EU give up? Other than china losing out on political capital, I don't think china gained much from the agreement. Unless you have more concrete examples.

This is like trying to say china lost more by not sanctioning Russia.
