Chinese Economics Thread

Seeing those news happening not only in China, but also everywhere else, makes me lose trust on the current education institutes and consider what kind of a reform can be done for the future of education system.
Eh, I think chinese schools have started to stop getting foreigners to come and teach english.

Ofc not every single school, but the overall direction was apparantly that.

What's more like I mentioned earlier (in some other thread I think it was), the chinese education branch or whatever it is, is currently doing reforms to education (stopping for profit after schooling part of it), although it is taking its time I suppose.

The reforms will definitely help ease the burden on the families providing education, which will lower the cost of raising children, helping to decrease the hesitancy to have a child and increasing birth rate in return.

My uncle have his children go through after-school lessons and take up other extra-curricular activities just to gain extra points for their Gaokao, hopefully this will be reformed so there would not be an incentives to spend more money just to get into the top universities, increasing the burden on the family.

Also China needs more vocational schools graduates, vocational schools still have bad reputaion around them and they can not offer competetive alternative to universitiy degree.

But in the end of the day you can have X amount of engineers but it doesnt matter if you have 0 manufacturing experts.

That was also mentioned in the guanqi podcast (which also talked about school reforms and the textbook scandal).

And I think it's the correct way.

I personally dropped out of uni, but currently in a 'business' school, with the line I'm in specially for educating programmers to be thrown into businesses to work.

The whole "white people teaching English" thing was extremely embarrassing tbh - schools often hired white people (e.g. Russians) who could barely speak English themselves, let alone teach it... the main requirement was "be white". At the same time, finding such job for, say, an English native-level Filipino was WAY tougher when it should have been the opposite. Even some Asian-Americans who went to teach English reported similar stuff. It is good that the government finally cracked down on such blatant white-worshipping behavior. They should do the same with the modeling industry and entertainment - take Lelush for example, he is an absolutely talentless white dude who got famous for basically just being white, wtf is this? Meanwhile, extremely talented Asians in the white countries routinely get stopped by bamboo ceilings and excluded from the top-level entertainment jobs.

Things are changing for the better overall nowadays though.

As for why that happened in the first place, well China was Poor and the Western world with US as its leader was rich. Nowadays though, people can see behind the curtain for the US and China has also gotten richer and better.

I hope they can let more Filipinos immigrate (in the millions number), their english level is top. And Chinese english language skills are still, shit to be honest. Not that China needs in long term, but for now english is lingua franca and sinic people are basically like japanese, really incompetent in english.

I know many Filipinos who know english better than Tagalog, which is a bit sad but, still you have to use this asset!

Plus this will achieve softpower points,
Filipinos will see real China and will report this back accordingly, maybe Xi-Marcos relation can pave way for massive young Filipino immigration.

More young immigrant people means also a solution to demographics, since young people to what they have to do.

Also Filipinos and Chinese share same history of colonialism and living in a poverty, brotherly people.

White anglo sexpats only come for the easy unga bunga.

White woreship has to stop in whole asia tho not only Mainland China.

This is Sevy, a filipino YTer living in Metro Manila i think. Many Young filipino have english language skillz like her.

This is Aster, also from Philipines.

If their english level is not top, i dont know what is.

Prejudice is still a problem in China. Many Chinese would rather learn badly taught English by Russians and Serbians just because they “look Western”.

@ficker22 there are bro and from the feed back I'm getting the Filipinos are highly valued. The problems I'm hearing is that the Chinese gov't want to establish screening procedure with Philippine gov't as not to repeat OFW abuses in other country (unqualify people), Chinese knew that migrant workers is an emotional issue here (don't want new problem to erupt), they want our gov't to regulate instead of letting the private sector handling it. Another is personal choice, having a US green card is a dream for many Filipinos, it's a way to increase social mobility, so many will rather work on odd jobs in the US, flipping hamburgers than work in a respectable job in China.
