Chinese Economics Thread

I wouldn't worry about the West decoupling from China. I'm not saying they won't do it. I'm saying in the end they would lose. China has two things in its favor. It's a large continuously growing market and it can make everything cheaper than the West. That's why they outsource to China. And the irony is if China can't make it cheaper, the Western product will be so expensive it will be non-profitable. The only way the US can stop China is through war or get the world to have no relations with China. The problem with war is the West will suffer from retaliation which is why they haven't done it. China along with the US are the largest consumers markets in the world. You think the world including Western countries want to not to sell to China especially when the US engineers it that all its allies are dependent on it for their own economic life blood. Here's what's been going on. It's sort of like the stages of grief. The West needs China but they don't want to admit to it so they're making threats like they're in a position of false strength. First there was a virtual meeting between Biden and Xi. Then there was one with the EU. They're not going to bargain because that makes them look weak after calling for decoupling with China so Biden and the EU first tried to convince China to go along with them on the Ukraine war. That didn't work so now they're in unison threatening China. That won't lead anywhere because the West's economic situation will only get worse if they take on China. Then after a while when it's going nowhere for the West, with the Russia situation and the Western economies get even worse, they start bargaining. In the US, Europe is seen as more socially advanced. NATO is beating its chest claiming it can destroy any country. The most civilized making threats like a despot...? There's a link why the countries with a history of aggression also didn't have many natural resources of their own. That's why the West tried to take over the world. They were the monster that roamed the countryside terrorizing villagers. Then when the villagers started to feed what the monster wanted because they had no choice, the monster can almost look nice and civilized since it was getting what it wanted. Now that the world is economically growing with China being that engine, they don't need to feed the monster as much anymore. In the end, Europe is still Europe, a land with not many natural resources. Even the US that has many natural resources still doesn't have everything. Putin's war is squeezing what little resources Europe has left. When NATO is bragging how they can destroy any country on the planet, that's a sign of desperation not strength. Europe is still Europe thinking it can threaten to terrorize the villagers again but they forget the villagers can nuke the monster now.

Covid lockdowns made births plummet far more in China than in most other countries. They saved boomers and got a massively smaller amount of newborns instead. Was it worth it? Even now the 'zero covid' strategy has run its course. Omicron is too easily transmissible to be contained.

All this has significant consequences for future - and current - growth.

How did you connect low birth rates to covid lockdowns? Neither covid nor lockdown was mentioned in the original article.

Technically USA is rich in resources.
The US has many but not all hence why they don't like China in Africa where the natural resources the US doesn't have are there. Also the natural resources the US does have... they don't have enough to feel safe. Look at the Ukraine situation right now. The US's allies in Europe need oil and gas. The US claims it's energy independent. Maybe but not enough to make Europe feel secure.

You go back years in this forum and you see my posts saying the exact same things in this video on the truth about rare earth metals. Am I an expert? No. It's because I read a lot and can draw my own conclusions. But all these years a lie has been told by all the usual suspects simply blaming it on China because there's no drawbacks on blaming China. They know blaming China is easier than blaming themselves mostly because they're greedy cheap bastards. They want to play victim and China is somehow preventing the West from producing their own rare earths. All are acts of war if were true. The only way they're going to beat China on rare earths and in many other sectors is when China is richer per capita than they are and labor gets paid more than in the US. Does anyone think that's acceptable to them?
