I believe HKPF has some type of housing allowance.
I was writing about Soft Engineers in HK.
How much an apartment rent in HK?
Can I get a decent apartment for 1k USD? Not in the centre as long as theres MTR access is good enough.

Yes they do. They get more than allowance. They're provided with flats at a very low rent. My brother who was a policeman now retired (they can retired early with full pensions). Had a flat that I was using when ever I returned to Hong kong. Even though he was using our ancestry home in the village because it was still register in my dad's name.

That home was worth it's weight I can tell you. On top of that, they don't pay income tax! You pay 10% if you are single, but if you are married with kids. No income tax is paid!

Lol. Perhaps you should've made it clearer HKPF means Hong Kong Police Force. Lol

China is vaccinating almost 14 million people a day, the fastest pace in the world, as the country races to protect its Covid-19 advantage in the face of major Western nations reopening their economies.

The ramp up in shots is being helped by a flareup of cases in the eastern province of Anhui and northeastern region of Liaoning. Videos on social media showed citizens rushing to get their vaccines, with

at inoculation sites despite heavy rain. Hefei, Anhui’s capital city, administered 360,000 doses on Friday, the most in a single day for the hub of 10 million people, Xinhua News agency reported.

Many nations in Asia, China included, are struggling to combat vaccine hesitation. Some people have been wooed into a sense of complacency due to the region’s early success in containing the virus while others simply don’t trust the safety or efficacy of the vaccines available. However, recent outbreaks in countries like Singapore and Taiwan are testing that reluctance as harsher lockdown measures are imposed, bringing into clearer focus the understanding that being vaccinated can help stop serious illness.

Beijing is loathe to lose the advantage it’s built up over the U.S and other major Western economies with its successful containment of the pathogen, and has added pressure through things like calling for mandatory vaccination among state-owned enterprise employees and communist party members.

The escalation of shots in China -- figures from the National Health Commission show 13.7 million vaccines were administered on Friday -- means the country is now closer to its target of vaccinating 40% of its population, or at least delivering 560 million doses, by the end of June. As of Sunday, some 393 million doses had been given, with 210 million of those occurring over the past month, a sign of the accelerating roll out, official data show. According to the World Health Organization, China can now administer 20 million doses a day.

“Don’t hesitate, get vaccinated,” Xinhua News agency says on its offical WeChat account. “The fact that new infected people are not vaccinated is undoubtedly a wake-up call to all -- to build an immunization barrier, vaccination is not an option but a must.”

It’s estimated China will have 900 million to 1 billion people vaccinated by next year, when herd immunity is expected to be reached, the head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, George Fu Gao, said in a recent interview.

China has enforced some of the harshest approaches in the world in terms of putting whole regions into lockdown and people into quarantine, even when only cases in the single digits are detected. Because of the latest outbreak, schools have been halted in the northern coastal city Yingkou in Liaoning while people are banned from leaving their residential compound in certain regions of Anhui.

This is really important. If China can administer 20 million doses per day from now until the end of June, 900 million additional vaccine doses could be administered by then, with China achieving herd immunity as early as July (at around the same time as the US)

Yes and no.

The largest impetus in spending is in during the growth of a new family.

New house, bigger car, organic food, private school, afterschool programs.

While I no longer wear Versace Classic at the office during my single days, I spend far more now as a father or two than I ever did tending to a Z06 or e46M3.

Yes and no

Still have a cupboard full of classic liberty print ties I don't wear any more because no one dresses up for zoom meetings!

I'll be spending my accumulated wealth, on my bucket list in a few years time after I retire and before I die, can't take it with you! This will be a lot more spending than while I was working simply because I'll have the time, can't go for a nice lunch if you have to dash back to the office! so horses for courses...

Consumption is based upon the accumulation of disposable wealth which is linked to productivity if a greater amount of 'wealth' can be produced and redistributed with the same or fewer people you don't have a problem, end of the day humans will consume and the last meal syndrome tends to be a good motivator

I was referring to HK police force as well. I believe HK firefighters and customs officers also have some housing allowance.

Police, fire service, and customs - They're all civil servants, and the government provides some form of housing support. The level of support depends on the civil service rank though.

My uncle is still with the HKPF, and I'm not sure about what level of housing benefits he received as a police constable because he still lived with my grandparents. When he made Probationary Inspector, he moved into government quarters... and the apartment he was assigned had to be at least 1000 sq feet. He stayed there until promotion to Senior Inspector, when he was eligible to move to larger quarters... and I swear to god that apartment was like a fucking mansion (my cousins each had a hefty bedroom and there was still space for a playroom that doubled as my grandmother's bedroom whenever she visited lol). He managed to stay there after promoting to Chief Inspector, but once he moved up to Superintendent he was required to move out - I suppose the government expects that once you've made rank you ought to earn enough or have enough saved up for a mortgage. I'm pretty sure he doesn't receive any direct housing allowance right now.

I'm not sure about commissioners though (tbf there are only 25 full time police that fall in the commissioner bracket of rank), because we've got family friends that made rank (at least in the upper brackets of rank) in the civil service and I'm pretty sure they lived in government quarters.
