Good choice. No, the days of HSR are not over.

From the article
In March the State Council released a document on the development of the nation’s rail system, partly aimed at stopping local governments from blindly building new projects and taking on dangerously high debt loads, a person close to the government’s policy-making apparatus told Caixin.
The document stressed the importance of building out high-speed rail infrastructure in a balanced way, with a ban in principle on construction for new projects with expected utilization rates below 80%.
The document also laid out conditions for construction of the most expensive rail lines capable of traveling up to 350 kilometers per hour, limiting them mostly to routes between major cities with large passenger volumes
Good work from central gov. Nobody wants expensive HSR if it doesn't make sense. I dont say the lines must be profitable, however they must also not be wasteful, the below 80% utilisation rate ban is good IMO

They should vaccinate a city, with Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccine in 3 days, the same way they tested the whole city in 3 days. There is no way they are behind the UK in vaccination rates.

Yes. If there is another outbreak, I would expect them to vaccinate the entire city.

I reckon China is producing over 8 million doses per day now.

But China is behind the UK in terms of percentage vaccinated.

Where is Orthan who like to post doom and gloom article and predicting the impending disaster because everybody is deserting China supply chain specially in electronic. Well reality is something else. This and Morris Chang recent comment on difficulty building FAB in Arizona should throw cold water on "impending exodus from China"

Taiwan island-based electronics giant Foxconn have kicked off operations of a brand new massive factory in Zhoukou, Central China's Henan Province over the weekend, marking another extension for the company's already huge presence in the Chinese mainland, in stark contrast to its troubled project in the US.

With a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan ($231 million), the project has two phases. The operation of the first phase started on Saturday - less than two months after Foxconn signed the deal with the local government in early March - according to the company.

According to the Zhoukou government, once both phases are completed, the factory will offer about 30,000 jobs and the annual output will be more than 3.1 billion yuan.

An official of the Chuanhui district, where the factory is located, said that the district established a special command center to facilitate the project, and relevant work, including topographic surveys and risk assessments, finished within two months, media outlet xxcb.cn reported.

Even as the company is expanding business in the Chinese mainland with impressive speed, its US project in the state of Wisconsin - a project that was hailed by former US president Donald Trump as a sign of the rebirth of American manufacturing - is facing hurdles.

The electronics factory in Wisconsin, first announced in 2017 with total pledged investment of up to $10 billion that was expected to create 13,000 jobs, is not coming along as expected. Instead, the investment amount shrank to $672 million and the whole project will create fewer than 1,500 jobs, CNN reported on Thursday.

Under the new deal, the incentive package for the project now totals only $80 million, less than 3 percent of the nearly $3 billion in tax breaks and other perks the state originally promised, according to CNN.

"The Zhoukou factory has showed the Chinese government's efficiency and stable supply chains, while the cuts to the Wisconsin factory reflected several deep problems that exist in the US society, such as partisan battles and inadequate industrial chains," Xiang Ligang, director general of the Beijing-based Information Consumption Alliance, told the Global Times on Sunday.

"Such a massive project requires support in many factors, including an efficient government, vast talent pool and adequate industrial chain that guarantee supply. Apparently, the US doesn't have such conditions," Xiang added.

Yep. This is the money quote. This is why China is the world's factory. If you want to wait for the red-tape in the US then ...

Better to come in China and finish all the project preparations in just a few months

Currently, many major routes are built, and many are still being built. If some new planned lines are seen as redundant or too unaffordable (some poorer provinces might have problems) planners can slash them.

It's Caixin. It's a CIA puppet
I've seen many articles and yes, something stinks fishy. E.g. from what I see many articles there hate rails and worship airplanes. I think some people there might be graduated under Michael Pettis because I see the same dumb arguments.

I don't believe that is an accurate statement
It's Caixin. It's a CIA puppet

While Caixin may not be literally a CIA puppet, it seems to represent the "free market" capitalist forces advocating privatizing China state owned industries. That is exactly what CIA wants, to weaken the economic and systemic foundation of China's development.

Chinese Central Bank Calls for Renminbi Internationalisation to Become National Strategy, Says Time Is Right for Capital Account Liberalisation

This seems pretty silly to me. The core issue with the Chinese economy and the priority of the latest 5 year plan is to boost consumer spending. Liberalizing the capital account and boosting RMB internationalization actually fucks with domestic wage earners and consumers pretty hard, just look at Great Britain and the US.
