if what i remember is correct, the epicentre is at wenchuan, not beichuan.
and as far as i know the rescue team hasn't reached wenchuan county yet.
I was rather surprised that they even tried to airdrop paratroopers into the region considering it was almost night time, there was a storm, and the mountainous terrain. airdropping would be crazy in my opinion...

You're right, Beichuan is actually some 50 miles away from the actual epicenter, which is located at Wenchuan county. I heard the first batch of PLA troops just arrived at Wenchuan, and the air force is considering drop paratroopers to the region(very dangerous under such condition indeed) within hours. I heard Premier Wen Jiabao said they have now mobilized more than 100,000 troops, if true I believe this is the biggest troop deployment for PLA in decades.
