GUIYANG -- A Fuxing bullet train departed on Tuesday morning from Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, marking the full operation of the Guiyang-Libo section of the Guiyang-Nanning High-speed Railway.

The Guiyang-Nanning High-speed Railway is the first high-speed rail with a designed speed of 350 km/h for both Guizhou province and South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, of which Nanning is the capital city.

Due to complicated landforms along the rail section, including high mountains and steep valleys, the Guiyang-Libo section consists of 86 bridges and 62 tunnels. The mileage of bridges and tunnels accounts for 90 percent of the total mileage of the section.

The Sanxingdui Ruins in Guanghan of Sichuan province is widely recognized as one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in the world. Believed to be created by the state of Shu, the site is the biggest prehistoric city ruins on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

The exhibition is divided in four sections. The first three sections feature the historical findings of the Sanxingdui Ruins, trace the origins of the ancient state of Shu and highlight rituals and life scenes. The final section spans 1,000 square meters and presents the ancient civilization via new audio-visual technologies.

Peng Chengzhi (R) checks experimental data with Professor Yin Juan at a laboratory of the Shanghai Institute for Advance Studies of the University of Science and Technology of China in East China's Shanghai, July 22, 2023.[Photo/Xinhua]

Peng Chengzhi, born in 1976, holds several professional positions: professor and doctoral supervisor at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), chief scientist of QuantumCTek Co Ltd, and chief engineer of the scientific application system of Micius, the world's first quantum communication satellite.

Peng began to participate in the research of quantum science and technology in 2003. Since then, he has taken part in the whole process of the design of the quantum satellite "Micius", witnessing the development of China in the fields of quantum communication, quantum computing and others.

Since the USTC and QuantumCTek Co Ltd are based in Hefei, while the Shanghai Institute for Advance Studies of USTC and Shanghai Research Center for Quantum Science are located in Shanghai, Peng often travels between the two cities for work and living.

The Yangtze River Delta integration drives the flows of talents and technologies, and provides impetus for the development of science and technology. Taking advantages of the Yangtze River Delta integration, Peng and his team are making full efforts to prepare for the launch of a new quantum satellite.

On Tuesday, to commemorate 140 years since Stilwell's birth on March 19, 1883, the city held a series of events fondly remembering the hero who fought side by side with the Chinese people during the latter part of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).

In front of Stilwell's former residence, a three-story cliff house near the Jialing River, his great-granddaughters Susan Mai Easterbrook Cole and Nancy Easterbrook Millward planted an osmanthus tree, which symbolizes friendship, loftiness and peace, together with Liu Ning and Liu Yinna, the great-grandson and great-granddaughter, respectively, of Chinese People's Liberation Army Commander-in-Chief Zhu De.

Although the two military leaders never met, they admired and respected each other, forming a deep cross-national friendship while resisting Japan's aggression. Their descendants have continued the friendship over the years.

Chongqing served as the nation's temporary capital during the war. The general's residence in the city was converted into a museum dedicated to his service that opened to the public in 1994.
