Born in Beijing, Zhao notes that her design ideas are also affected by traditional Chinese culture, which she considers as classic and timeless. Her label's logo design is xiang yun, or lucky cloud, a unique image in Chinese culture since clouds are considered as lucky and featured a lot in Chinese pictures and symbolism.

"The jewelry's design expresses the wearer's philosophy and sentimentality. Each design is inspired by a story, be it a snippet of music, a poem, or a piece of visual art," says jewelry designer Zhao Yici, when asked about her design sources.





Her latest design, a collaboration with the internationally-renowned luxury department store Lane Crawford, is named Wonderland.





The collaboration celebrates China's unofficial Valentine's Day on May 20, with the number 520 sounding similar to "I love you" when spoken in Chinese. Zhao is one of many designers from around the world joining forces with Lane Crawford to unveil exclusive collections during this special day. [Photos provided to China Daily]

A special acrobatic gala themed "Another Youth" for diplomatic envoys in China was held in Beijing on Wednesday. The sixth Farming Folk Culture Festival kicked off on Sunday in Paidang village of Maogou township in Baojing county of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture, Hunan province, attracting lots of nearby residents and tourists.





Following the tradition of "opening seedlings' gate", local people carried out a series of folk activities and fun sports, such as transplanting rice seedlings, drinking, tug-of-war and catching fish in a paddy field.

As one of the characteristic farming cultural activities in Maogou, the event aims to show farming culture, folk customs and rural beauty as well as to pray for good weather and an abundant harvest.
