A group of dedicated teachers at a senior high school in Southwest China's Chongqing have recently won online praise for using their spare time to set up stalls in the school corridors to tutor students. They aim to help the students improve their performance in the upcoming National College Entrance Examination.

"The tutoring has been ongoing for three years," said Yuan Tianyong, principal of Chongqing Fengdu Tongwen School in the city's Fengdu county. This year, 57 teachers from the school's senior grade are helping about 900 senior students who are about to take this year's gaokao.

He said whenever the teachers are free, or when they grade assignments or prepare lessons, they prefer to move their desks from their offices to the corridor to make themselves available to answer the students' questions about their study and to provide guidance.

Amid the hustle and bustle of a big city like Beijing, sitting in the sunshine, sipping a cup of coffee and reading a relaxing book — even on the weekend — can seem like a luxury.

To address the challenge of finding "hush hour", more community libraries, some built with funding from local governments and the ingenuity and dedication of residents, are mushrooming across the country's capital.

By 2021, more than 90 percent of the city's population had easy access to community libraries at 6,830 locations, according to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism. The bureau said its goal is to have complete coverage of the city by 2035.

A special train, decorated with giant panda images inside and out, will depart from Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, on May 8.

The panda-themed train is a high-end boutique tourist train operated by China Railway Chengdu Group Co Ltd. Travelers can take the "Panda Train" to Xishuangbanna in Yunnan province before transferring to the China-Laos Railway's international trains to visit sites in Laos, such as the capital Vientiane, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang.

It offers an opportunity for tourists to experience the charm of regional culture and distinct national features. To meet individual demands, the train can also provide tailor-made services, including a panda post office, karaoke and mahjong.
