People visit 22nd Zigong lantern show in Sichuan

As one of China's historical and cultural cities, Zigong is called "Lantern Town of the South Kingdom". Zigong Lantern Festival is one of the largest folk cultural activities in China and generally lasts around a month. This festival attracts people from China and around the world.

People visit the 22nd Zigong lantern show in Zigong City, the so called "Lantern Town" in southwest China's Sichuan Province, Jan. 21, 2016. The lantern show began on Thursday evening, displaying 128 large-scale and medium-sized lanterns.

A new six-part television series celebrating stories of China's ancient history has begun showing on the UK's public broadcasting service, BBC Two. Written and presented by British historian, Professor Michael Wood, 'The Story of China' explores the development of Chinese civilization over more than four thousand years. The six hour series, which took two years to make, takes Wood through some of China's most historic sites, including ruined cities of the Silk Road, desert oases and ancient capitals.
