Call CPS or DHS...or the police...
An unidentified boy in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality was tied to two pieces of wood in the shape of a cross by his mother recently, according to local media. The boy reportedly did not finish his homework, leading his mother to tie him up on the street. The boy's father said the mother was "just kidding."

Honestly if this happened in any state in the US the parents would be arrested and tried and convicted. And spend some years in prison. The child would be awarded to relatives or foster parents ..if they past DHS/CPS screening.. and I do believe that kid could be set financially for a long...long time.

I'm glad that kid's mom is paying attention to his homework, just like hundred millions other moms.
Hopefully, someday, these kids will take the lunch of American kids with a shelf full of participation trophies. Lol.

Well, let's just say that this is not the right way of paying attention to your kids homework...

A major problem with the current education system in China is the over-emphasis on test-taking abilities. What you end up getting is a whole lot of straight-A students who thrive at obeying rules and thinking within the box. And those who like to think outside the box are weeded out in this kind of system.

Just had a talk with a new graduate student from China. He is seriously worried because his latest experimental data disagree with his mentor's theory. He is losing sleep (literally can't sleep) because he thinks that his advisor would think ill of him. I kept telling him that he should be excited that he is making unexpected discoveries. His advisor is excited as well because his group is making breakthroughs. I kept telling him that I literally know that his advisor is excited because I work with him extensively and he IS excited about his student's breakthroughs. But this student simply cannot shake that test-taking mentality and feels that he is failing his advisor. After almost an hour of discusssion, I finally gave up and told him that he should carefully think about his career options if he insists on thinking that making breakthroughs is a bad thing and that his job is to simply prove his advisor's theories.

Who am I to judge what is the right way or wrong way how a mother should pay attention to her kid's homework. Nah, not me.

This system has delivered many millions that continues to produce great results both at home and abroad, a case in point would be your example. It might as well be you, or your father and mother that came out of that system and making a living and living the dream.
Most are able to adapt.

It is half full dude.
