BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping met with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Beijing Friday, saying China will work closely with the at a new starting point to maintain the smooth transition of ties and stable growth.
"The development of China-U.S. ties since the forging of diplomatic ties has proven our common interests far outweigh differences," Xi said.
Xi stressed that China and the United States should have a correct understanding of each other's strategic intention, abandon the zero-sum mentality, stick to non-confrontation, respect each other and carry out mutually beneficial cooperation, to boost the building of a new type of major country relationship between China and the United States.
Kissinger told Xi that he believes it is the expectation of the U.S. new administration to facilitate sustained, stable and better growth of U.S.-China relations.
As a trailblazer for China-U.S. ties, the 93-year-old strategist paid a secret visit to China in 1971, which broke the ice and paved way for the establishment of China-U.S. diplomatic ties in 1979.

An exhibition of Dongyang bamboo weaving crafts made by artist He Fuli is being held at the Zhejiang Provincial Museum in Hangzhou. A total of 76 pieces/groups of his representative works are a feast to the eyes, bringing visitors to an exquisite bamboo art world. Dongyang bamboo weaving is a traditional Chinese handicraft originating from Dongyang of Zhejiang Province more than 1,200 years ago. It was included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2008. He Fuli, 62, is famed as a "master of Dongyang bamboo weaving" and many of his works have won national awards. He has been invited to the Imperial Palace Museum to repair the cultural relics of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and to restore their original appearance.

CHENGDU, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- About 20,000 passengers are still stranded at an airport in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, after the worst fog in years hit the southwestern city on Sunday.
Authorities at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport lifted the red alert for flight delays at 3:23 p.m. after issuing it at midnight, but the number of delayed flights are still increasing. As of 3:30 p.m., 58 flights had been canceled, according to the airport authority.
The runway was closed for nearly 10 hours and was accessible for limited operation at 11:43 a.m..
