To be honest at first I thought it was dumb too.. I mean why bother with the silly activity .. just write a check to the ALS foundation and shut up!!

With that being said I have however since changed my mind. Why you asked? because I forgot to take 'human silliness, bragging and playfulness into the equation'.

The truth is however silly this lil activity is, the fact is it has brought much needed attention to the ALS cause and that donations to the ALS Foundation have increased significantly because of the ice bucket challenge gone viral.
So I guess the mantra of whatever it takes to make it work for a good cause I'm all for it.

If it means riding a donkey down a water slide to make more people donate than more power to it.

I donate only to my Church and Navy Relief. And both organizations give away money as needed. Our church supports many different organizations.

And...I'm a nearly 61 years old...I refuse to do silly stunts, play practical jokes etc etc.... I told one of my church brethren once;

"What many folks see as "fun" I just see as silly".

I sure this comes from when I was growing up. My dad did not allow us a free range of play. Our fun was limited. Many times he'd say "Play time is over". And he meant it.

As far as ALS is concerned it would be very worthwhile to donate to their cause. ALS..Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a debilitating disease of the central nervous system. It is progressive disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Gradually robbing a person of his/her motor skills.

When I was a kid I was a baseball fanatic. I loved to go to the library and study baseball statistics. Especially the players from years past. I'm memorize the stats. That is how I learned about NY Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig and his struggle with ALS. For many, many years ALS was commonly know as, and still may be, Lou Gehrig's Disease. Lou Gehrig was one of the greatest baseball players of all time. I read a boys book about him when I was about 9 years old.

End off topic..

Yeah it's all just a social media fad. I personally not into it. One of my former high school football coach died from ALS in 2005.:(

Wang Jia, a 31-year old graphic designer from northeastern China's Jilin Province, fell prey to ALS at the end of 2007. The index finger on his right hand is the only body part that can still move. Wang used to be a very handsome guy; he has kept using facial cleansers, cologne and hair wax since falling ill. "I am too thin to look good," Wang said with a touch of frustration before having his photo taken. [Photo/Sina]

Wang watches his favorite NBA games on TV. While the players race against each other on the court, Wang is left only with photos and memories of himself playing basketball before he fell ill. Wang now lives with his parents in a house provided by a kind-hearted netizen named Xu Hong (who also helped with Wang's treatment expenses) and her friends. Wang was told that he had only two years to live when he was diagnosed with ALS, but he has been living with the disease for six and a half years now. [Photo/Sina]

Editor's note: As the world's celebrities scramble to take the "ice bucket challenge," amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a disease once rarely known, has dominated the headlines. Unlike the temporary coldness the challengers experience, ALS patients suffer from a lifelong struggle against the "ice bucket."

Due to the illness, Wang's head always tilts to the right side, and saliva flows from his mouth into a paper bag hung around his neck. His entire body is fixed to his wheelchair and can collapse at any second. Some teachers and students from China's Tsinghua University developed a specific software program for Wang so that he can continue practicing graphic design. Wang has completed more than 60 pieces of work in the last couple of years and has even created a poster for the Yushu earthquake relief efforts. [Photo/Sina]

C'mon Equation.. you are pushing or dragging 40..and you know it. That middle aged woman is more your speed.:)

Not to digress Popeye but I concur with you. A ten year age difference is ok (some would say preferable :D) but twenty is way too much. Personally I prefer women and not young ladies.

They are nice to look at though…….

End of digression. Back to pictures….

Another of Zhang Wuyi's homemade submersibles being tested on Moshui Lake in Wuhan. The 4.6 metre long submarine was built using parts from a small yacht and took Zhang and his friends 25 days to build. According to Zhang the submarine can travel for 20km/h for 10 hours. Zhang used to be the apprentice of Li Yuming, a local renowned submarine enthusiast who built 7 submarines in the past five years.

A man was detained by police for five days for driving a home-made racing car through the streets in Taizhou, eastern China's Zhejiang Province. According to officers they pulled the unusual vehicle over at around midnight and its driver Zhu Runqiang, 47, said he was taking it for a test drive after recently building it. Zhu said he made the F1 style racing car at home and only dared to test his creation at night when there were few vehicles on the streets. However, as Zhu has no driving licence and the car was illegally made he was fined 700 Yuan at the scene and held by police for five days. His vehicle was also confiscated.

A farmer from Wuhan in China's Hubei Province has successfully flown a homemade 'flying saucer'. Shu Mansheng's 4-metre in diameter UFO is powered by 8 motor engines and during a test flight he managed to fly it 2 metres above the ground for over 30 seconds. The round steel flying device, which cost more than 30,000 Yuan to create, is the fifth of its kind that Shu has built.

A man is seen testing the functions of his latest homemade submarine in Wuhan. Zhang Wuyi has been building submarines since 2008 and in that time has created dozens of different versions which he is continually improving.

Two Chinese aviation fans have successfully assembled a working water plane of their own. The two men were left celebrating after their makeshift craft recently enjoyed a successful maiden flight in Guangzhou, southern China's Guangdong province. With a wingspan of just 2 metres the plane can carry two passengers, however the fuel tank is positioned just above the head of the pilot. Hardware store owner Xiong Tianhua, 34, was the leading designer and maker of the plane, alongside partner Chen Baolong. The pair have assembled many planes over the past ten years, but this is the first time they have attempted to make a water one.

Ouyang Guojun built this aircraft with spare parts over the course of a year. The vehicle flew a successful low altitude flight on 26th July 2009.
