Get over yourself.. it's called spin in media circles. Get use to it . China's in the big leagues now. Do you see me complaining ever about negative press about the US? Nope..Many of you fellows are way to sensitive about China getting bad press.

What do you mean "you fellows"? :D

Overly sensitive?? If this is about african americans portray with such selective editing in the news, it would be scandal. If anything, Chinese people are too insensitive to these type of subtle racial attacks. I think the african american got it right. They are vocal about political correctness, and they got their respect by being vocal about it.

Of all the people I thought you would know.

Point in case, you can't even say "you people" to african americans...(is african american even political correct term nowadays?) :D

Seriously, put yourself in our shoe. Do you think the media is fair to the chinese?? And do you know how much these types of selective "news reporting" have the effect on the western population's perception of China and Chinese??

Re: Chinese Daily Photos, Videos & News!!

Asymptote, many many times in this thread and the other Chinese daily pic threads I've edited the captions because I don't want any of our members to be offended. Many times.

Last I checked I'm the main member posting photos in this thread. Think about that.

What do you mean "you fellows"

Chinese members of this forum that are overly sensitive about themselves.

Point in case, you can't even say "you people" to African Americans...(is african american even political correct term nowadays?)

1) You can say it to me...2) Don't know and don't care.

Seriously, put yourself in our shoe. Do you think the media is fair to the Chinese??

Not on all accounts. However as I've posted many times China is in the big leagues now. Learn to take criticism weather fair or unfair. That's just how the game is played.

And do you know how much these types of selective "news reporting" have the effect on the western population's perception of China and Chinese??

I have an idea but ..well you know the rest. Read my above responses.

Please don't group me. If you ever met me you'd know I'm the most unusual person you have ever met. Period. I'm not overly sensitive to attacks on the so called African-American community. Not at all. To me we are all the same. Human. No more no less. And I've stated the same things to all people of all colors. Get over yourselves. We are all the same race. Human.

End of discussion.

SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. - A week after a fake U.S. Army recruiter was arrested for scamming Chinese immigrants into paying to join a bogus unit, real Army officials said they have been reaching out to Los Angeles-area communities to prevent others from being duped.

Authorities said they arrested Yupeng Deng last week after he persuaded about 100 immigrants into paying him as much as $400 each for the privilege of signing up. Deng, who also goes by the name David, was arrested on charges of obtaining money, labour or property under false pretenses, manufacturing and selling phoney identification documents and using a counterfeit seal. He is being held on $500,000 bail and is set to be arraigned May 2.

At a U.S. Army Recruiting Office next to a Chinese shop advertising a sale on dried abalone in a South El Monte strip mall, Capt. Patrick W. Caukin said during a Monday news conference that officials have begun working closely with local high schools. They have also been posting the contact information for recruiting offices in the San Gabriel Valley as well as photos of individual recruiters on Facebook and other social media.

"No legitimate Army recruiter will ever ask an applicant for money in order to serve in the Army," he said. "No one in the Army will ever ask you to pay for a rank or promotion."

Prosecutors believe Deng recruited Chinese immigrants by saying it would improve their chances of obtaining green cards and U.S. citizenship. The case was investigated by the FBI and Department of Defence and highlights the vulnerability of immigrants seeking American citizenship.

Sgt. Di Sang, a Chinese-born recruiter, said he gained his citizenship while he was serving in Afghanistan after joining in 2005. To join, applicants need to be U.S. citizens or green card holders, between 17 and 35 years old, proficient in English and have a high school diploma.

Once they have qualified to join, the Army can help recruits fill out the citizenship form, and most will get their citizenship once they graduate basic training, San said. He has recruited 16 Asian immigrants in the last six months.

Deng's attorney, Daniel Deng, no relation, has said his client was just trying to help members of the Chinese community show their appreciation for their new country. The lawyer said his client joined a military support groups six years ago after he won asylum for facing religious persecution as a Christian and wanted to share the experience with other immigrants.

Authorities and other Chinese community members, however, don't think Yupeng Deng's motives were so pure. Members paid to enlist in his military group, renew their membership and made additional donations to ascend in rank.

Yupeng Deng had an office in Temple City decorated as a real recruiting station — complete with a rug featuring an Army seal. After paying their application fee, recruits were trained using mock weapons and were issued bogus ID cards they were told could help them avoid traffic tickets and earn airfare discounts.

Janet Chin, board president of the Garvey Unified School District, who served in the Army, said that when she joined, nobody asked her for cash — they offered her money.

"The reaction is shock and obvious distaste for members of the community that would do this," she said.

So what can Russia learn from Hong Kong? I know they already learn to set up SEZ just like china

Is there law that ban eating dog. I think he was only caught because it was from a illigal puppy mill

Eating dog is not banned in China but they are drafting their long overdue first law on cruelty against animals. Looking at the prominent coverage of this incident in the state media, I say the government is preparing the ground for the passing of the law which may or may not ban dog eating.

"Activists save Chinese dogs from cooking pot

(AFP) – 20 hours ago

BEIJING — Hundreds of dogs being trucked to Chinese restaurants were spared a culinary fate after about 200 animal lovers mobilised to stop them ending up on dinner tables, state-run media said Monday.

A truck crammed with the dogs was forced to stop Friday on a highway in eastern Beijing by a motorist who swerved his car in front of the truck and then used his microblog to alert animal-rights activists, reports said.

The dogs, many apparently stolen from their owners, were being transported from the central Chinese province of Henan to restaurants in Jilin province in the northeast, the China Daily said. It said 430 dogs were rescued, while the Global Times put the number at 520.

Eventually, about 200 animal lovers and activists gathered around the truck in eastern Beijing and after a 15-hour standoff that jammed traffic the dogs were freed early Saturday when an animal-protection group purchased them for 115,000 yuan ($17,600), the Global Times said.

The interception of the dogs was the latest bold action by pet-lovers in China, where growing awareness of animal rights is colliding with centuries-old culinary practices.

There have been regular reports in recent years of citizens attempting to block trucks carrying hundreds or even thousands of cats to meat markets in southern China, where cat meat is particularly popular.

The China Daily quoted activists saying many of the dogs still had collars with bells and name tags, indicating they had been stolen from their owners and that the trucking company transported a load of dogs to Jilin each week.

The consumption of dog and cat meat, both of which are believed to promote bodily warmth and are thus popular in winter, remains widespread in China despite a surge in popularity as pets.

However, earlier press reports have said authorities were looking into drafting a law that could outlaw the practice.

The reports on the dog rescue suggested the truck company was unlikely to face legal action as it had all the necessary permits to transport the animals.

The healthy dogs were to be made available for adoption in one month while the sick ones, suffering variously from dehydration and infectious diseases, were sent to pet hospitals in Beijing."
