That's where compassion kicks in in people who feel for animals. They were not caught from the wild but in the streets and then weakened due to captivity and lack of care, etc. In a nutshell, mostly due to human intervention. And because of that, the more reason for human intervention to save them. It does not even matter if they were caught in the wild. If we have compassion and respect their right to live, we should make sure they are healthy enough before we can release them as is generally practiced by vets in most places of the world.

That would only be natural. The weak die and the strong survive.

You can't just throw animals into an alien environment and tell them that "grow strong or die". Domestic cats are never mean to live in forest. They'll die soon of hunger.

I don't know, they're smart animals, cats can adapt to foraging the forests for small field mice to hunt and eat.

In urban environment, there are two kinds of animal that you can always see being abandoned; dogs and cats. A homeless dog is usually very skinny and full of sickness, thus doesn't live long. Cats live better because they can jump, climb much better dogs can. Cats then break into kitchen and steal foods. They can also hunt home mice for foods. They give birth to kittens and live like that generation to generation. However, that is limited to their familiar urban environment only. You still see many kittens abandoned by their mothers and they die soon due to starvation.

In woods? That is a totally unfamiliar environment. Animals become fierce and reluctant to do anything, let alone hunting. And the woods they are thrown into doesn't also have mice for hunting.

I Begg to differ a little there steel some abandoned dogs do better then others especially those hardier breeds like husky who are still very much the wolf at heart or a pit who still has a lot of power, I once had a retriever who had previously been abandoned he did rather well. Eating out of dumpsters living on what it can catch in the urban or hunting in the arboreal its critical the dog still have enough attributes to defend and hunt
some dogs though... Are doomed especially the smaller ornamental breeds like English bull, that damned taco bell dog, and Pugs especially pugs five minutes after abandonment a Pug slips into a deep depression and hangs its self for the shame of being such a ugly fat crime against nature!

This has happened before. These large group of abandoned domestic animals wouldn't survive long in the forest. Most of them will soon die a painful death from starvation, wounds and diseases, with the rest of them surviving a bit longer mostly on cannibalism.

It will happen to the weaker ones but to release 1000 cats en masse in one location will only intensify their suffering.

China on the whole is still a long way from appreciating animal's right to live. I don't understand why if they can ban government officials from eating shark's fins, they can't outlaw eating of dogs and cats throughout the country.

We have two kitty cats.. Vegas and Reno..they are inoor cats. They do not go outside ever. We had them neutered and front nails removed when they were about 1 year(Vegas) & 6 months(Reno) old. They would not do well outdoors. We found Vegas roaming around in our parking lot in Feb 2005. And a few months later my fiance now wife got Reno from a litter on a farm. Nutered males never mark their territory. If you visited my home you'd never know there was a kitty-kat dwelling here.

The vet said Vegas was about one year old when we found him. He's a 100% Seal point Siamese. Reno is a cat of mixed heritage.

Enough kitty-kat talk.
