If I remember correctly, a 125cc motorcycle or a scooter would cost 10,000 RMB back in 14 years ago. Now a car cost 9999RMB. I wish I could buy those cars. Sure , safety is no where near western cars, but still safer than a motorcycle

This photo is not in Cambodia but I wonder how people can be so heartless!

When I was in China I also saw an old woman begging for money on the subway. I did give her money. My reasoning was this:

There are two possibilities -
A) The woman is in desperate need of money.
B) The woman is a fraud.

If the woman really did need the money in order to survive, I am doing her and society a huge favor. If not, all I've lost are a couple of yuans of spare change, which is insignificant given my current income. Overall the benefit of giving money outweighs the costs.

Eewww...that means no indoor plumbing and flushing toilets. Now don't get me wrong I'm all for reuse of old shipping containers as structural development for new homes, but it still needs all the modern day amenities and comfort. See that tiny metal hut on the left to that cute puppy? I bet that's the water closet (toilet).

I guess the women was saying "Uncles and Aunties, I come from xx province to find a job but cannot get one. My husband has abandoned us. Now, I'm carrying a baby and no one is willing to hire me. I don't have money to buy food and milk for my baby. Please help!" Photos of women carrying children begging for money have many stories behind them. Yes, some are fraud but not all! In some case, the babies ARE NOT their children. They RENT the babies! However, you can tell whether it's true or fake if you pay more attention because only the real mother loves her baby. Let's me tell some of the beggars stories that I ever encountered.

1. When I was between 10 to 20, I helped my parents running business in a wholesales market, namely the Olympic market. I saw a beggar who I thought was a Chinese ethnic. I guy was in his thirty and he didn't beg from everyone but targeted mostly elderly people from provinces. Actually, people in the market like us ignored him because we saw him doing the same thing almost every day. He told stories to his "customers" that he came from some remote province to find a job and now he had nothing left and was seriously sick (stomach ache, cancer whatsoever) and he needed money to go home. Sometime he said his wife died, sometime his child died or whoever in his family that he can count died, and he needed money to rush home urgently. I first saw him when I was just more than 10 years old, and now I'm in my late 30; I saw him again not so long ago at a bus station. Nothing changes, he still tells the same stories except he is older with a lot of grey hair. What I admire him the most was his eloquence. His speed was just like a heavy machine gun suppressing your mind, making you give him money even though you don't buy his stories.

2. Some time in the mid 90s, near my company. When I was walking, someone called me from the back. I turned back and saw a guy whose appearance made me feel that he was an oversea-Khmer people. He told me he came from the US and he lost all his traveler's checks. He said he needed to go to Thailand in order to claim back those money. He showed me his passport and asked me to help him with $20 US dollar because we (he and I) were all Khmer. Sick! I refused him and told him that if he was really a US citizen then all he needed to do was going to the US embassy.

3. Same in the mid 90s, in my company. I worked for a company which sold Chinese herbal products from China and, of course, our suppliers are all Chinese. One day while we were talking to some suppliers, a woman came and talked in tears. She said she came from China in the purpose of going to a third country and was cheated by those human trafficker. Now, she lost all her belonging including passport and money. One of the Chinese guys in my company asked her why she didn't go to the embassy and asked for help. She said she did but the embassy said they could only issue some type of certificate to let her leave the country but not any financial help. Another Chinese guy, after hearing what she said, told the first guy that it was true that the embassy wouldn't provide any financial help except some type of papers that she could use substituting her lost passport. After hearing so, the first guy continued to ask her a few questions and then he gave her $20. She left.

Beggars 1 and 2 are truly fraud. The 3rd one could be a true story but might also be just another clever fraud. God knows!

I've done the same thing here in the US..I give from my spirit/heart. Not my mind.

I think China's First Lady Peng Liyuan serve as a positive image of grace and beauty and she's doing a pretty good job so far. She's the equivalent of US First Lady Michelle Obama whose well dressed and smarts are popular as well(at least to those who are Democrats).

Doing the Snatch weight lifting is so scary because of the danger. I always wonder how those guys do it. I remember during high school my football coaches only have the team work on dead lifts and hang clean lifting because it's safer and gets the results you need.

BEIJING, Marcj 26, 2013 (Xinhua) -- Aida Yang and her husband Yang Yan create a Chinese painting in their studio in Beijing, capital of China, March 7, 2013. "I feel that he is a good man, and I want to be with him." Recalling the first time Aida saw her husband two years ago in her hometown Freetown, the 26-year-old Barbie-like lady lost in sweet memory, "Language or distance is not a problem." This love at first sight unveiled when the Sierra Leone girl met with Yang Yan, a 58-year-old Chinese painter two years ago when Yang Yan traveled to Aida's hometown Freetown, Sierra Leone. Aida married to Yang Yan one month later and moved with her husband to China with the new name, Aida Yang. From then on, Aida Yang began her life in China and lived in Beijing together with her husband where Yang Yan had a big painting studio. Inspired by her husband, Aida started to take the traditional Chinese brush and draw on Chinese art paper. As her skills improved, the couple even cooperate on the same artwork as Yang Yan draw tree branches and Aida gives fingerprint in colour to make wintersweet flowers. In this very Chinese-decorated studio, Aida find herself fall in love with Chinese culture. Apart from painting, she has learnt to play Guqin, an ancient Chinese stringed instrument, and the art of Chinese tea-making while she had family guests visiting. Probably the biggest accomplishment she has achieved is that Aida is able to well handle the Chinese language, as she often says in Chinese with pride "I love my husband, and I also love China."
