heh. Shanghai still has areas like this? i though that the entire city was covered with skyscrapers already. I guess this means more high-rise buildings are on their way to an already very crowded cityscape.

Did the young lady had a license for street vending? It's a sad scene, but unless she violates local laws on street vending than she should know better or was the urban management officials were being abusive before the incident got heated.
I'm more sympathetic to the street vendors than the "urban management officials" in third world countries. Permits for street vending are usually a method of protection from competition for shops, and a way for the government to generate revenue. Enforcement of the permits is usually determined by how much "coffee money" you pay the local official.

Street vendors keep costs low which helps the poor. They provide food and clothing far cheaper than any restaurant or shop. They have to struggle the twin protection rackets of organized crime and police.

Is that a man or a woman? With that haircut it's difficult to tell.

In the US depending on where you live street vendors prices are on par with any merchant.

That is a woman..

Shanghai is huge, the area (land wise) is as big as Houston. I wouldn't be surprise any city in the world of that size can still has some poor neighborhood area like that.
