Allure of ancient music form reverberates again as it strikes a chord with young people, Xing Wen reports.

It's the sound of music but also a chance to listen to the melodic echoes of culture, lovingly passed down through the generations. Dubbed "a living fossil of Chinese musical history", Nanyin was listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009. Ten years on, its ancient sound is still winning over enthusiasts.

Photo taken on April 16, 2019 shows a train running on the Datong-Qinhuangdao railway after its overhaul. The 653-km Datong-Qinhuangdao railway, which links the city of Datong in coal-rich Shanxi Province with the port city of Qinhuangdao of north China's Hebei Province, is an artery of China's coal transportation. It is ususally overhauled respectively in spring and autumn. During the overhaul time, the railway stops its service three hours a day so that construction workers are able to alter damaged rails, clean rail beds and clear silt. (Xinhua/Cao Yang)

One of world's rarest soft-shell turtles dies, only three now survive

One of the last four surviving Yangtze giant soft-shell turtles died in east China's Suzhou Zoo on Saturday.

The death of the female turtle came a day after zoo staffs made a last-ditch effort at artificial insemination, using semen from a male companion estimated to be more than 100 years old, according to the Suzhou Daily.

The C-Space Project Mars Base opened officially on 17 April 2019 with the aim to educate and provide an environment for youths and tourists to experience life on planet Mars. The base occupying an area of 11,996 square feet is situated about 40 kilometers from the town of Jinchang in the Gobi Desert.
