They got the real gear. The stuffed animals you see if not actually goofing around that much. A lot of boarders like me have padded pants on the inside so when we hit ice and fall on our ass, it doesn't crack that tail bone. Before I got the ass protectors, I pretty much have 2 or 3 bad falls each time. They just made the internal pants external and make it kid friendly.

Yep, they got the real gear. I've snowboarded a couple times. Since I usually ski, I didn't have any of those butt pads. Once I got a bad fall and my butt hurt like crazy... I then went back to skiing... much more comfortable for me. with that being said, I would not be spotted with one of those stuffed animals on me... Maybe I'm too insecure... hahaha

From their height, they look like kids. Which would make sense to have cute stuff toy like butt protectors. Mine are black, goes on the inside of ski pants, and look like the pants hockey players wear on the outside, but a lot thinner and only padded on the butt.
