  大阅兵中最震撼人心的武器属于最后一个受阅地面方队:战略核导弹方队。按照西方军事观点,核导弹是唯一不使用就可以赢得战争的武器。
  自次1984年国庆35周年首次亮相阅兵式以来,第二炮兵部队的装备方队一直是地面受阅方队的“压轴戏”。
  同时,中国陆基巡航导弹也首次公开亮相。
  “与10年前受阅的那些导弹相比,此次受阅的同系列新型导弹,性能都有了明显的提高。”第二炮兵装备方队政工组负责人汪利平说,此次受阅的导弹代表了第二炮兵部队建设的最新成果:此次阅兵中多数导弹都是本系列导弹中的最新型号,且是首次亮相。
  国防大学教授李伟认为,此次参加受阅的这些射程、任务各不相同的导弹,显示了第二炮兵部队已形成了型号配套、射程衔接、打击效能多样的作战力量体系,能够全天候、全方位对多种类目标实施精确打击。
  巡航导弹方队方队长苟翼说,从2006年接收装备以来,全旅在11次实弹射击中,34枚导弹全部精确命中目标。
  “我们国家有许多装备借鉴了发达国家的先进技术和经验研制而成,但在战略核武器建设上,我国走了一条完全独立自主的发展道路。”战略核导弹方队长张光忠认为,战略核导弹的研发,代表了中国武器装备自主研发的最高水平。
  1999年国庆阅兵时,中国战略导弹部队进行了有史以来最大规模的受阅,战役战术导弹、战略核导弹、洲际导弹首次集中亮相,引起了举世的关注。战略导弹不断的公开曝光,显示了中国军队的自信。
  2005年10月,位于北京北郊的中国战略导弹部队首脑机关曾迎来第一位来访的外国客人---当时的美国国防部长拉姆斯菲尔德。
  在会见中,第二炮兵司令员靖志远强调的,正是中国在各种场合重申的那句话:任何情况下,中国都不会首先使用核武器。
  《2008年中国的国防》也申明:第二炮兵所属导弹核武器,平时不瞄准任何国家。但“在国家遭受核袭击时,使用导弹核武器,独立或联合其他军种核力量,对敌实施坚决反击”。
  参加受阅的二炮徒步和装备方队的官兵,是受阅部队中学历较高的一个群体。汪利平说,目前,第二炮兵90%的干部都是大学毕业,大批本科士兵正进入军营,一个以总工程师、导弹专家、技术尖子为主体的新型人才队伍,已在部队形成。

an article on CJ-10. It doesn't really say much other than that it has conducted 11 firing tests since entering service with this regiment that was interviewed and have had 34 success with no failure.

YJ-62, apparently this was first fielded in May of 2005, is shown here as China's new shored based AShM. You can see YJ-62's mobile command station getting targeting information and firing it off (claims to be 400 km in range). And then, we see pictures of it serving for the navy.

i think there is a need to develop a down-sized cheaper version of DH-10 with shorter ranges. when it comes to Taiwan, China doesnt really need a cruise missile ranged like 2000km. 500 to 600 km would enable it to be launched from out of the range of Taiwan's fire projection. and since China will need A LOT of them (ref to US tomahawk consumption in iraq), why not just build a cheaper version of it, its good for mass production, and if its smaller you can even put it on H-6 and JH-7. China is definitely gonna need over 1000 of those missiles if it were ever to use them on Taiwan, so they should make it as cheap as possible.

There probably is a cheaper cruise missile for such uses, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it would be a DH-10 based missile.

I think the range and size factor isn't as important as the electronics when it comes to expense. Making a shorter ranged weapon with the same accuracy will only reduce the costs a little. My guess is that the most expensive components are the gyro and guidance systems followed by the engine. However you are right that it will make the missile more portable, and probably stealthier due to smaller size.

Due to the speed the missile flies at, it has to have inertial guidance system to control the missile between updates from satelites, and because it flies close to the ground, it has to have altimeter to prevent it from flying into the ground, so, if we can build a missile that flies at a high altitude (>2000m) at a slow speed (<0.4M), then we can use the cheapest off the shelf GPS receiver modules to provide both position and altitude, and IMU's to control the posture, and build a missile that will only cost a few thousand dollars.

doesnt sound like something that can survive modern air defence...o well guess China will have to spend the money.

If each missile was really only costing a few thousands dollars, I think that option is really viable. When you look at it this way, a couple of hundreds of missiles aiming at a single target, there is nothing the defence could handle.

But I personally do not believe that a missile can cost this little even if it was using cheapo buy from shelf GPS system.

lol maybe during wartime when China needs mass production of missiles they will produce these ones instead of those expensive DH-10. at least they are good as decoys.

Actually, I believe it would be easier to just swarm and saturate the island with long range rockets rather than the more expensive cruise missiles, no matter how cheap the missiles are.
