Chinese Citizens REVOLT in Wukan!!

Put it this way. I was born in China, and I saw officials receiving bribes from their rich businessmen for land development and infrastructure projects. If you want to open a business and do something big, you need to have "relationship" in the government. These "relationships" coup be friends or relatives, and in order to maintain these "relationships," you gives bribed in forms of gifts during important holidays. You call them "personal" gifts, but in fact inside the gift boxes could be cash, jewelry, Channel, Rolex, etc. As soon as you maintain these "relationships" in the government, your company would most likely be the one be granted important construction projects, even if your construction quality is literally unsafe.

Over here in Texas we have the Enron debacle. Do you know congress can get inside information regarding a company that's listed in the stock exchange legally but share holders can't?

When you're done reading this, let me know which one is more "corrupt".

I saw a US TV report that compared China and another competitor in the region about how easy it is to start up a business. The journalist who was a foreigner to both countries opened up a business in China by going through the process in less than 72 hours. The other country people compare to as better than China took over three months before they gave up.

My friend who owns a security company tried to get a contract in a city in the San Francisco Bay Area. By law the city is suppose to award the contract to someone new and especially local every x amount of years. So my friend tried to get the contract because the previous company's contract was about to expire. He didn't get it and the contract was awarded again to the same company. Why he didn't get it? He look into it and a city councilman literally told him he didn't bother to give anything to enough councilmen to get their votes.

You really think you can judge when the 2008 financial crisis is all about corruption of the highest order in all of history. Maybe because no one was arrested that means no crime was committed.

Every country has to craft their economic policies and practices that work and suits them best. There is no one size fits all.

This GPS piece was air Sunday and India could lose it's B.R.I.C status and Indonesia could take there slot.

That article claims 1 acre of agricultural land is worth over a 1 million?
I think that's a misunderstanding, Cai was probably just speaking figuratively about how much the land means to the farmers.

Hmmmm
Transparency international does have USA in 24th and China at 75th, for its 2011 compilation on a countries perceived corruption level. Meanwhile little old NZ is perceived as the least corrupt. Thats why I probably find the antics of these other countries , rather irksome.

Something Ive been thinking about for quite some time and I stand to be corrected on. But isnt the land that all the apartments are being built on are leasehold land?

There's another pretty big on in Shan Tou over power plant pollution.

There will need to be at least gradual political reform, in one form or another, to try and minimize these problems, sure all country have corruption problems that doesn't mean it's ok to not try and minimize it.

Good news if this is formalised. Well done to the Wukan residents for not being bullied into submitting. :)

I wonder how much his back-down was driven by Wang Yang. There has been commentary drawing attention to his battle with Bo Xiliai over promotion in the coming years. He had to resolve this issue quickly so that his reputation wouldn't be damaged too much, though I wonder if he waited a bit too long to have his subordinates negotiate directly.

I love the logic of how if no one was arrested for a crime, that must mean it didn't happen. Funny how they don't apply that logic to China. It's like People magazine declaring who's the most beautiful person in the world. And who do we always see as the winner?
