Chinese air to ground weapons (missiles, PGMs, etc)

Hypersonic missiles decrease your time to respond to the attack and reach the target more quickly. It is as simple as that.
We also cannot discount the possibility of radar stealth due to plasma effects. But this applies to the Zircon not the Oniks aka Brahmos.

The US did not even bother to develop their own naval strike stealth cruise missile. They are buying a design from Norway. They are just that lazy developing naval strike weapons. The last two decades fighting insurgencies in Iraq and Afghanistan didn't help either. The budget for peer conflict systems was severely cut.

They could just put it near every potential target. Manpads and anti-air guns are cheap.

They did develop LRASM, a stealthy anti-ship missile. And further developed the NSM with Norway to get the JSM.

LRASM has shit range. It is only viable when fired from an aircraft.
