Remember that during the Tank Biathlon of 2014, a Russian T-72B3 tank intentionally rammed the side armor of the Type 96? I think this year maybe the Type 96s added some thin side armor to prevent "cheating" by the Russians.

wondering why China don't send Type 99A2

I believe there was a post in the Tank Biathalon thread regarding this. It would leave a bad taste in everyones' mouths to send our best tank. The Russians don't send their T-90s in either. Ultimately, the chinese entry last year did very well up until the engine blowout.

This year I suspect the chinese team will be rather suspicious of anyone getting too close indeed Josh Luo.

4 Type 96s have been transported to Russia for the 2016 tank bilathon of the International Army Games and will compete with teams from 14 other countries. The PLA is also deploying PLL-05 howitzers, which will compete in the “Masters of artillery fire” competition, additionally 4 unnamed IFVs and other equipment. Chinese Su-30MKK fighters will also attend Avaidarts in August.

13 teams of the PLAGF were formed to operate their systems during the various competitions.

If the Chinese were smart, they would have sent the MBT-3000 instead to garner a few raised eyebrows from potential buyers.

China is at least a generation or two behind. If China sends Type 99A2, Russia has the option of sending T-90 or T-14 Armata. Either way, China will still lose.

China at least a generation or two behind Russia in tank technology? o_O Are we talking about 1990 China or what? I believe China's Type 99A2 is on par if not better than any current Russian tanks right now.

Two generations behind would be run of the mill T72s.. I think even the most anti China pessimist would agree the T99A2 is exponentially more capable than the T72s lol

IMHO the 99A2 is at the very least equivalent to M1A1 but most likely very similar to M1A2 in term of capabilities.

To be fair, I guess if the T14 Armata is considered a new generation of tanks than Russia would be 1/2 generation ahead in terms of tank technologies.
